carb question

okay here is another....72 gmc with 78 chevy 350 with a 4 barrel qaudrajet. I'm completely retarded when comes to carbs so bear with me. I replaced the fuel filter last night which was pretty clogged went to go start my truck back up and Gas just started pouring out of my carb through a oring with a rod through it.the rod is connected to my throttle linkage. It is located to the front driver side of the carb.I don't know what this is called. Well anyways it barely wants to run at idle and when it dies I have to press the gas all the way to the floor to get it started again. Which I'm sure cause it's flooded out.Runs fine with any type of open throttle. I was toying at the thought that it may need a fuel pressure regulator or a float is stuck or my carb just needs rebuilt. But it did it out of nowhere. any help is appreciated.sorry.

Re: carb question

Stuck float? Trash in the seat? These quadrajets are very good carburetors, but they have inherent problem areas. One of them is that there are two plugs in the bottom of the bowl that will leak gas into the secondaries. One of the fixes is to replace those plugs with new ones that have a o-ring. The other part of the fix will have you installing a dense rubber piece in the well beneath those two plugs, holding them in place so they can't leak.

I would look at rebuilding the carb or getting a replacement. Whether it's a re-man unit or a new replacement, I am going to say you'd be looking at one or the other to solve your problem.

Re: carb question

Power valve for the primaries. That's a common problem.
