Front and rear sway bars with bags?????

I have a idea on what I am going to do for the front bar, I am going to run a nascar style since I no longer have the fractory frame rails or front suspension. On the rear what are my options? I am going to be cramped for space with the bags in front of the axle and the watts on the rear. I was thinking again about using the nascar style and mount it behind the axle and attach the end links to the axle. Will that work??

I like that. Would look good polished up. Have you thought about mounting the rear to the trailing arms? You may find more room up there without all the clutter. Also, would a Corvette front bar work for you?

Yes.... what you are talking about doing with work just great.... I cant tell you how many times I have recommended those torsion sway bars to guys and they look at me like I am on crack

I started polishing the front arms and will probably have them powdercoated when I get the frame done. I was looking into mounting them to the arms but not sure on a set up for that. I have a corvette front bar but with the new frame rails it won't work. I am about going to have to run the bar right through the center of the frame rails. Thanks for the advise and let me know if you have anymore.

Good thing is that they are not that expensive and if they are good enough for nascar they should be good enough for a street truck.

A Camaro rear bar might be an option depending on how much travel you'll have with your bags.

You know from my build how much I like powdercoating. Sooooo much easier to maintain. Take a look at this Hellwig bar made for our trucks- with a 3" block, you could probably mount it on top of the arms without driveshaft interference.

Aren't you ditching the Camaro bar? Is it incompatible with your current amount of lift?

Aren't you ditching the Camaro bar? Is it incompatible with your current amount of lift?

Might would work, I will need to get the drive shaft in and see what kind of clearence I have.

Yes, but if he runs a different config or shockwaves it might be an option if space is an issue with the other style.

OK, I thought I was pretty up on different sway bar configurations but I've never seen the torsion sway bars.
Where do you get them? Do they have to go through the frame like that or could the tube be mounted under or over the frame rail? I like the idea and the look.
Can you get the torsion bars in different diameters and lengths to tune the suspension?

Where are you mounting your tanks and compressors and where is your exhaust gonna exit?
I'm also curious why you have the disc brake on the diff and on both wheels?

The torsion type sway bars are what most race cars use because they are very tunable and easy to incorporate into almost any chassis.
The bars are easily changed to different diameters and can be made to any length. And yes, you can use a pillow block to mount the bars to the frame, which is the most common way of mounting them.
The arms come in a wide variety of lengths and bends and you can even get them not heat-treated and bend them yourself.

Thanx for the compliments on the 77.
I am the worst at taking pictures and never seem to have time to work on the poor truck, so a build thread would be painful and futile.
As far as the tanks and compressors, I will mount them after the exhaust is run and that is still in the planning stage. I was hoping to have it exit through the bed side in front of the rear wheels .
That little disc is the parking brake. I didn't like the cables running under the chassis and getting in the way of the tranny and exhaust.

I'm going to try and push the truck out today and get some pictures of it in the sun.

That's very helpful.
Those guys arent' very forthcoming with pricing though. Only one had any pricing that I could find but I certainly like the way the bars work and how tunable they are.
I don't see any of the mounts to go through the frame like yours though.
Where and I missing them?

I'm thinking of having my exhaust exit through the side also. I really like the way they look on Porterbuilts "Shop Truck" rendering but I'm not sure I can afford the way Nathan is planning on doing those particular ones.
I'm gonna be building a Blazer like jkade and I'd prefer them to exit out the rear just to make things a little quieter but I'm just not sure that's gonna be physically possible with all the other stuff that's gonna be in there.
I'm planning a triangulated 4-link and then there'll be bags, compressors, gas tank, fuel lines, etc, etc, plus I'm gonna be low with a step notch up into the floor so my only option may be out the side. I'll have to check that out when we start getting everything mocked up.

OK, so how does the park brake work? hydraulic?

The rear sway bar in my picture above has bushings that fit into the ends of a piece of DOM tubing.



The parking brake is from TSM and is just a regular cable operation.

jkade - I ran the same sway bar, but turned it around and ran it behind the rear axle. The mounts are on the chassis at the very rear of the truck and the attachment points on my bag mounts that are behind the axle. No pictures of it here on my work computer. It worked out real well for me. I'll post pictures tonight if anyones interested.
