tie rod reinstallation problem
today im putting back together my front suspention and im basically done except for my outter tie rods. i tried to put it back on the spindle, but the nut gets to tight and im not even close to the cotter pin hole. does this have to be pressed in? what do yall think?

What changes did you make on the suspension? Did you replace the spindle? That may call for a different tie rod end.

are you sure you're putting them in the right way to match the taper? also different spindles have different taper tierods

it was the same spindle and the same tie rod end. i just had to replace the bushings and ball joints.

i am now trying to put the castle nut back on the tie rod and the threaded part of the tie rod is spinning and preventing me from putting the nut back on. is it broken?

you need some air power
or..use a jack..under the tie rod end..apply some pressure to seat the taper..then you should be able to tighten it up

the tie rod bolt should tighten up against the spindle as you are tightning the nut and it shouldn't spin, did you remove the tie rods completly, maybe you got them on backward, I don't know, if it came out it should fit just fine.

the tie rods were never removed, only the spindle. all the parts are the same ones as before. i have even tried heating the nut to see if it would go on. the nut only goes on so far and then the tie rod bolt starts spinning.

Sounds like the tie rod is broken. I suggest getting a new one.

Remove the boot, & stick the rod end back in the spindle...... does it fit tight when you push it all in? Check it for wiggle in the spindle. IIRC, I caught a post on a arm bushings, & it sounded like you have the rubber bushed (73 up) arms on the truck. If you are running 73 up spindles, the last guy in could have tryed to bolt the 72 tierod ends in, & they wont pull up as far 'cause of the diff in taper on the rod end. crazyL

go got it on. i ended up heating the castle nut hot enough and it fit like a glove. thanks for all the help guys.
