Bed Toolbox - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just bought a parts truck to do a 5 lug conversion. The truck has a decent factory bedside toolbox door. However, it is locked and I have no key. Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove this without destroying it? Thanks!

I usually can find a small key that would fit those locks. Usually the pproblem is just getting the lock to turn. You can also get locksmiths but I'm sure you thought of that and if all else fails well- you can drill and replace it. Good luck

Drive over & get a locksmith to pick it & re-key it.

For the crazy-price of an undamaged box door, you can justify the expense of a locksmith Vs. the risk of maybe damaging it while drilling it out..

I see another is the safe open yet thread starting

Either get a locksmith as mentioned, or drill out the lock and replace it with a new one. They do not run very much. Might even be cheaper than the locksmith.

Back in my college days, I drove a 54 f@rd truck. Had no door lock on driver's side, lock on passenger's side. Scrounged a set of locks from another truck, took them to a locksmith, and sat and watched while he re-keyed them. Didn't cost too much. Don't know how many locks I've made keys for since then. Handy knowledge to have. THAT was worth what he charged to do mine. Wish we were in the same neighborhood, I'd give it a try. Good luck!

I like the locksmith idea but it isn't practical since the truck is not a driver. I tried all of the keys that I have acquired over the years for these trucks and no luck. I will try the drill today and report the secret contents tonight!
