Alternator ??

Well my alternator started charging around 16 volts on my aftermarket volt meter. So I broke out my DVOM and checked it at the battery and it is charging at 15.94 volts at idle and around 16.20 at 2000 RPM. I repalced the alternator and external voltage regulator about a year ago. should I be too concerned or should I repalced the voltage regulator again??

Re: Alternator ??

I recommend taking a look at the Powermaster line of alternators. Ck our www.powermastermotorsports.com/gm.html. They have 100 amp and 140 amp models. Appearance wise they seem the same and are chromed or natural. I just put the 200 amp model in my 99 Silverado and that sucker answers all my power needs to spare. They seem to be very well made. And they have the 6 and 12 mounting position.

Re: Alternator ??

Not trying to jack this thread but I have a question. I put a one wire 140 amp alternator on my truck and the amp gauge always shows discharge until I turn on the AC then it points strait up. I have daytime running lights and a big amp on the stereo. Is it possible the amp gauge is wired backwards I put a painless wire kit in the truck. Always shows 13.82 volts at the altenator at idle or up to 2500 RPM

Question Re: Alternator ??

When switching to internally regulated alt, do you have to change the battery guage in the dash too?? I swapped last weekend and hooked up the battery last night and now the guage is reading right in the middle all the time, even with key off. I must of did something wrong *no a big surprise*

Re: Alternator ??

The amp meter will alway's show something on it. Don't worry about it. If you want to take one of the small nuts off the circuit board on the back of the dash.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Alternator ??

Another vote for the internal regulator. Got mine from Austin Alternators. They do a lot of mail order as well.
