Anyone ever do wood over the metal in the bed??

I saw one done and it looks cool until you open the tailgate and there is some end cap thing to cover the end of the wood bed. If it is just for looks it would probably be worth it but I was worried about the moisture getting caught under the wood floor against the metal and rusting it out. It would be the same problem with a bedliner.

Bruce Horkey makes a Show Deck product. I have not personally seen one, however the pictures on the attached link look nice. They also include a barrier to address the moister issue.

Does anyone have any pictures of this product?

Ain't them purty???? I remember the ads or maybe it was an article in some publication. I'd love to have one in my '96 Stepside GMC, but it looks like I will have to try my hand at making my own. An aluminum framework, with the wood strips, runner/skids and a piece to dress it up at the rear when the tailgate is open, and I'm gonna take the hard tonneau off of it. Let's see....teak or cypress? I have access to some cypress and it is tough to beat in wet environments, huh?

$1000 for a show bed!! Why couldn't you just take a regular wood bed kit and just make some kind of frame to set the planks on, and just set it in the bed? A lot cheaper.

A good quality wood bed kit goes for approximately 700.00. After constructing a frame, the modifications that would be needed to drop it in, and the moister barrier. You would be close to 1000.00. We all have $$$$ into our trucks, a few more to do it right probably will not break the bank.

I know what I'm going to spend my "Economic Stimulus" refund check on.........Thanks Bush

For that much I would: disassemble the bed, replace the cross sills and front panel and have a real wood floor.

I could not agree with you more. However the wood bed was is an after thought. My project is 99% complete, and instead of starting another project (K5), I am looking for a finishing touch. I'm not willing to remove my newly painted bed, and all yhat is involved with such a drastic change. The show deck, although pricey is an alternative that can be considered.

Horkey show deck bed kits run over $1700 plus ride for there oak and polished kit.
