Front Disc Brake Conversion

I have a 1967 GMC longbox and would like to do a disc brake conversion on the front. I will leave the drums on the back. Also, I want to do a 2/4 drop on the truck. Do I have to spend piles of money on kits from vendors or is there a more inexpensive option to do these 2 things? Any feelings on the lowering? Do I need to use dropped spindles or is there an easier way that works well? For the brakes, can I use discs off an 80's truck?
I just need a good starting point I guess.
Thank you
Joel

Re: Front Disc Brake Conversion

Here is a good starting point for some info, may or may not apply.

I have a 64 and used the control arms, spindles, caliper and discs from a 71. If I had to do it again, I would find a junk yard and remove the items for this to be inexpensive. Good luck and post your findings.

Re: Front Disc Brake Conversion

Do ALOT of looking in this "suspension" section. Read as much as you can. I suggest spindles as the best drop method. Then if you decide to go lower you can always change the springs. A donor truck from '73-'87 would be a great source for all your front disc brake parts. If you would decide to keep it a 6-lug rotor on the front,... there are plenty of board vendors that can supply them. Look at the FAQ section http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=262547 here. And the board vendors here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showgroups.php
