Re: My 51 GMC 100 Build...
What are your plans? Stock, Kustom? Looks like a great base to start! I'd say the hardest part is keeping on budget. What builds are you following? Gotta love Kidd's GMC! Good luck, keep the pics coming!

Looks like a good start, GMC rules. There is a wealth of info online in many forums, and remember there is nothing you get to that some else has not already figured out. Also I noticed you a some artillerys on it already KOOL!

Re: My 51 GMC 100 Build...
What do I have planned hmmm. Plan on putting on a front IFS Mustang II kit with Airbags I do believe, and a Rear 4-Link Suspension also with Airbags, I am hopeing Ill be able to set it on the ground when done... But we will see... I am going to put a 454 in it even tho I was told it was a tight fit... a 700R4 tranny to go with it. But thats about as far as I have gotten. But we are still in the building stage right now and such hoping get it all out on paper and such. I am hoping to get the truck done in a 3 - 5 year timeline (sooner the later I hope), and a budget of 20K. Dunno how thats going to work but I am going to give it a shot. Will have more updates as they are done but I am going to be takeing the truck apart and finding out what I need to have replaced busy work frist then the fun stuff can come. Yup Yup I do need a fender up front haha but I guess for $450 for the truck its going to have a little bit of problems hope I got a good deal :P
Wonder how long I can keep the second halfs car out of the garage :P Last edited by Cole_lol; 01-31-2008 at 12:27 PM. |

Re: My 51 GMC 100 Build...
Have fun tearing down that RAT!! I think i put about 5k into the one that im puting in my chevy suburban. Its good to see some old GMC's coming out of the woods and ya you got a great deal on your truck, we pay more than that for a pair of front fenders up here. Have fun with your build and take your time.

Re: My 51 GMC 100 Build...
Patch panels the ticket bud and as far as the rust media blastin since you have quite abit of heavy rust on the body and frame. About 6-8 hundred dollars should do it or rent the equipment yourself the pay off is worth it you dont have to eat rust for weeks grinding or wire brushing it off plus you start with clean bare metal for priming and paint because you dont want to get into problems painting so my advice is blast it just put it in your budget to do it is well worth you can look at my pics and see what a difference it makes. I got lucky and had no rust outs anywhere on the truck but paid 3k for it.

Re: My 51 GMC 100 Build...
Hi Cole
Thought it would be easier to answer your P.M. here so I could post a pic of my frame for you. I had it built years ago by someone whos welding skills were better than mine. The back half sets just inside of the original frame. The tires are 29/18.50/15s. The smaller frame is so I can tilt my bed. Hope this helps. Kim |

Re: My 51 GMC 100 Build...
Ok guys got a little question here for you...
Does this look right on the front end? To me it looks like its two peices of flat steel that is welded to the frame, I commited a sin i started to cut one off because i think its tacky as heck and am going to think of a way to make it look better but then i was thinking hey why not use my resources YOU GUYS haha. Any help would be great.... I guess the guy that i got the truck from use these to hold the chrome grill on the front... Let me knwo what you think and what is supposed to be the right thing there... One is the top view Second is a side view |

Re: My 51 GMC 100 Build...
Hmm not to sure what a roo bar is but once removed what holds the front grill in place? Because the bottom of the grill had two or four bolts that supported it then two angle bars for lack of better words to support the top. just want to make sure
