I Like Shiny Things, Coated intake/Headers - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I thought I would show some pics of my freshly coated headers, intake & water neck.
The water neck is a stock gm unit, intake is an Edelbrock RPM and the headers who knows.
These are coated with a product called Armor Coat at Aesthetic Finishers in Piqua Ohio.
The finish is good to 1350 degrees, it is a ceramic based product.
I like the fact that it is supposed to reduce under hood temperatures.
The heat shield properties should help reduce the intake temp since the coat everything inside and out, top and bottom.
I did learn one lesson. The smoother the base finish of your product the smoother the resulting coating. I had no idea the headers had any pitting. Well I can see the pits now. They can also do the headers in black which would hide the pits better.
All in all I am very happy with the results, it should add a nice bit of shiny under my hood

Looks good and once there on and your going down the road with a smile on from ear to ear, you'll forget about any pits in the finish. John

lookin' good

got the same thing done to mine, same sort of grey, but i got them in mate finish. and i sandblasted the headers first, so it looks decent.

the intake got that endurashine stuff from edelbrock. also an rpm intake.

man i hate polishing.

really makes the engine compart look good, on both trucks.

The Intake was $135, air gap intakes are $165.00
The headers $220.00 I think.
This process sprays on wet unlike powder, and goes thru a ceramic coating process for the thermal properties.
Greg demos this stuff by banging 2 pipes together until they dent. No chips or cracks.
Aesthetic Finishers handles all the prep work.
Everything goes into an oven to be baked 1st in an oven big enough to fit an entire car or truck, after it comes out of the oven the product is scotch brited, then plasted with plastic beads custom ground in house or alum oxide depending upon the material they are blasting.
After blasting they go thru a multistep chemical cleaning process.
They are then sprayed, treated to ceramic, baked and finally hand polished.
I am told the only care I will need to give these will be a polish once a year with blue magic metal polish.
The coating will not stain with fuel which I really like.
The finish is quite slick to the touch so it should be very easy to clean.
These guys are nice to work with, they are all car guys.
They have two parts to the business. One is a production powder coat business and the other is called the motorsports div.
Greg who runs the motorsports div is doing a frame off resto on a 64 vette convert. that he bought when he was in high school.
When I picked up my stuff they had several stock car, sprint car chassis' in house, an entire VW floor board, and a 32 ford roadster. All other customers rides
I wonder if I could do my whole truck
