3.07's out and 3.73's in?
Can I swap the gears and carrier out of a 67' axle with 3.73's into a 71' axle originally equipped with 3.07's.
My truck is the 71' and I'd like to keep it 5 lug in the back. I'm having someone install a posi in the rear for the 3.73's. The conversion axles for the 67' would kill me for shipping and to redrill the axles would cost about the same.

Re: 3.07's out and 3.73's in?
I had a shop change out the gears in my swb 71 c-10 a few years ago. It originally had the 3.07's and they told me I could only go to 3.42's due to the size of the carrier. Thats all I know--maybe someone else will have more.

If you are changing the gears and carrier then yes. Like stated before, the carrier will dictate the gear set that can be used.
