Need help before something goes wrong
Alright guys, my 86 k5 (yeah, not the blazer forum but they are the same as the trucks for what i'm doing) Originally came equipped with the 305 4v, i believe they had the one piece rear mains (not for sure) and im swapping to a 1975 k5's 350, witch is a two piece rear main. What Flywheel do i use? Does anything special have to be done to make sure it hooks up right?
Im also going to be using a holley 650dp on top, a little swap meet find that im rebuilding. Do i have to buy any special brackets for the kick down on the 700r4? i thought i read somewhere that if the cable wasn't adjusted perfectly it would cause the transmission to fail? And, finally, would it hurt the tranny because i am not using the computer controlled carb and other emission bull? thanks

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
You ask for a flywheel so I assumed your putting in a manual tranny.
Then you mention a 700R4 in the next paragraph....? Flywheel = manual transmission Flexplate = Automatic Transmission.

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
bump still need help, what flexplate do i need? The one from the 305?
I need something to mount the throttle return spring, and i believe this http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku and a dual spring setup, what should i use to hold the springs? the kickdown bracket doesnt allow that. Anything else i need?

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
From what I could find that when they went to the 1 piece rear main oil seal in 1986 they change the crankshaft flexplate bolt pattern. So if the plate from the 350 in the same size and number of teeth it should work.Hopefully someone who has messed with one or has a hollander interchange manual will chime in.

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
Alright, both motors had good flexplates and advancedautoparts.com lists different flexplates for an 86 and a 75, are the bolt patterns the same? anyone?
And, i want to know more about having the kcickdown cable adjusted properly, i read somewhere that improper adjustment can lead to premature failure. Thanks

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
You need to use the flex plate off the 75 350 cause the flex plate off the 86 305 with the 1 piece rear main will not fit. You will also need one of these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
I agree with billy 81, use the flywheel that goes to the 75.I'm not 100% about the bolt pattern but both the 350 and 305 are internally balanced engines so the only thing left is the torque converter and that should hook up fine. far as the transmission goes make sure you either flush the radiator or add a new external cooler. The 700 is notorious for leaving parts in the cooler only to come out soon as you hook up a new one. You don't want to see what kind of mess that makes!Add the bracket, flush the cooler, and put on the flex plate for the engine and all should be good.

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
This the bracket I used in my swap. Still had to modify it a little to get it to work. If you are running a 700R make sure you get TV cable adjusted rught. This bracket has slots in it to adjust your cables mounting position. By the way Autozone has that bracket if you dont want to wait on shipping.

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
Your 305 came with a one piece rear main if it was original to the truck. 1986 was the first year.
When I put a 2 piece rear main 350 in my truck, I ordered the flexplate for a 1985 model, which came with the 2 piece rear main. No problems. Slonaker |

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
I am running the bracket with a quadrajet so that wont be a problem. As far as the TV cable I am not sure. I took mine back to the tranny shop that did the rebuild on my tranny and they did it. He just told me to bring it back as soon as swapped motors because if it not adjusted right it will burn up 3rd gear in no time at all.

Re: Need help before something goes wrong
Alright, jsut read on holleys site that you can use a double pumper with an automatic overdrive transmission, is this true?
"WARNING: This carburetor is NOT designed for use with any automatic overdrive transmissions. If used on an automatic overdrive vehicle, severe transmission damage WILL result."
