Been there done the same thing on my GMC. A second voltage regulator fixed mine, though. The guy told me that the alternator damaged my original so when I replaced the alternator I should have also replaced the voltage regulator. Hopefully yours is the same problem.

Just reread your post. You did replace the voltage regulator after the new alternator. It still could be a new defective regulator or even alternator. A long time ago I had to replace a voltage regulator twice. The new ones are electronic circuitry and can be easily damaged by a short.

a quick check to see if the alternator is charging is to take a screwdriver and put the tip to the rear bearing cap when the truck is running if is pulled in (magnetized) the system is charging. voltage regulator & alternator should be both changed out at the same time. here is a link on this forn that has the alternator change up to the internal regulated alternater. this is what i did last fall (should have did this 20 years ago) nice easy change up and best of all 14.7 volts. link:http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=119379&page=2

all i did was go to my local alternator rebuilder and get a 105 amp gm 1 wire alternator. it bolted right on. then i unpluged the voltage regulator, cut the large red wire near the plug, spliced a piece of # 10 wire to it where i cut it and ran it to the terminal on the back of the alternator. all done. works perfect. i do think i,am gonna install a volt or amp gauge under my dash though soon. total cost $59.00
