Removing rear fenders and bed?

Hello everyone, Im new to the forum and also new to doing any type of restoring. That being said, I am having a little bit of an issue with removing my rear fenders and bed. How do I stop the bolts on the top-side from moving when I am using my (if I remember right) 9/16 wrench on the bottom side? The bolt top is solid with nothing to grab onto?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-J

I put a tack weld on the head to the floor and then took the nut off. Then take a hammer and breack the weld.

Re: Removing rear fenders and bed?

You could take a cut-off wheel and cut slots in the bolt head so you can use a screwdriver. I have heard of guys putting a tack weld on the bolt head to hold them. I had to just take my cut-off wheel and cut them off on the underside of the bed, I tryed to use penetrating oil but after 35 or so years they were being stubborn. Just have to be careful with that and be sure not to mess up your sheetmetal.

Aha...learn something new everyday! I however dont have a welder yet. Thats my next expense. Thanks for the idea though. Recommend a decent affordable welder? Lincoln maybe?

Thanks again.

Re: Removing rear fenders and bed?

Thanks. I think I'll try the cut-off wheel first and if that doesnt work well. I'll wait for the welder. Thanks again for the ideas for the newb here. Its always been a dream of mine to do something like this (however not in a single-car garage) but now that I own a home Its all I have been thinking about.

take care!

Re: Removing rear fenders and bed?

the bolts holding the bed and fenders on are so cheap and common that i just do it quick and easy by grinding the heads off completely and usually replace with stainless ones on reassembly

Re: Removing rear fenders and bed?

Mine were very stubborn so I used the flame wrench to get them off!
