AM Radio In
Finally got the last parts I needed for my AM radio that I ordered from Ron King. It works good, much better after I pulled the truck out of the shed. I got the last pieces that I needed from my dad's cousin who lives 2 houses down the road next to my grandparents... he has a green 72 and had replaced his radio. So he gave me his (which also worked, but the preset buttons wouldn't work-- i tested it all out) and I got the pieces and put them on mine. Now its all in the dash good for the first time..... done set my presets... 4 country, 1 sports.

There is a pretty decent station that plays country. Really I want to do is there the song and its not staticy or anything. I don't care how much bass it has or anything. Works good enough to me... mainly wanted something to put in the dash and now I can say it even has an original radio for the truck.... matches the glovebox sticker for "AM Radio".

I'm glad it worked for you. It had been stored in David's attic for years and I was not sure if it would even work. But keep trying maybe you can find a good rock station!!

I don't listen to much rock anyhow. There is an oldies station on AM I know along with a Radio Disney station that has Jr. High rock like Backstreet Boys and junk like that.

im with ya. i finaly got a working am radio in my truck.. love it. i listen to talk radio all the time anyways, even if i had an fm/am radio, id still have it to am.
kind of cool when poeple get in the truck, look at that old radio. and i turn it on lol..

People at school are like... why chop up that dash and put something nice in. I dont think theres any point in it.
I like to tell them... "Look at my system". Best sounding AM Radio I ever heard.

 I have 2 AM radios if anyone wants them, 1 from a 70 the other was from a 72. I know one has all the knobs. Yours for the shipping, I could use the cabinet space.

Well you should have the heater ducts out of the way, probably end up takeing them out because you will take it out through the glovebox door. Take out the glovebox and take out heater hoses. Then take out that middle vent. Of course you will have to take off the knobs and the other pieces that hold the radio in place from the front. Then there is a kinda L shaped piece in the back. You can either undo it from the back off the radio or from the speaker bracket. You will also have to disconnect the harness (power/speaker). Then just get it out from the back and out the glovebox hole opening.

My Radio wasnt working all last summer, and before that the voulme would jump up and down, I couldnt figure out what the problem was. I took whole radio apart and tried everything. I put a new antenna on this spring and it works purrfect. Now I can listen to the oldies station :P

radio parts?
I was wondering when you said about radio parts???Is there a way I could get a new glass lenz for my AM? I bought a used am off a board member last year to replace my 17 buck kmart special for my truck and that AM has more sound, filling my whole cab with good oldies and talk radio...never regreted it! Any one know where I can get the glass?

Anybody have pics of the bracketry? I have a radio and speaker but not sure about the brackets inbetween(I have them all). Need to see how they go together.

The lens is attached to the whole front chrome piece. Not sure how it is attached, if you would be able to detach just the lens or not. Otherwise you will have to keep your eye open for a nice chrome front. It might be hard to find though, most of them are pitted.

I also have to admit that its the best AM Radio I have ever heard. I like how you can fine tune it more than with FM Radios when you switch them to AM. They also get better AM reception than others... probably because they are completely designed for AM. If this thing I dies I think I will rebuild it. Would be a good experience. The thing does have a way of clearing up the AM sound and filling the cab well. Have you ever turned one up all the way, loud for what it is.. although you loose the bass at that point, not that AM has any anyhow. Gotta love that country music.
