Drop Information

Ok i am sure this has been asked a milion times but here we go again. I am just about to purchase my drop componets and want to get the lowest staic drop possible while only having to add a weld in c notch. What is the lowest you can go and does anyone have any pictures of a low drop. Let me know whose products you used. Thank you

I was thinking 2 1/2 drop spindles w/ 3 inch drop springs up front, in the rear i want to drop a total of 7 inches if possible. 6 inch springs and 1 inch blocks?

also if anyone has any of these parts for sale let me know

Some feedback would be great

thanks
taylor

Re: Drop Information

i have 2.5 spindles, and 2 inch springs in front. definately bottoms out easily. 3 inch oughta be as bad as my rear.

rear just has 5 inch springs, relocated shock mounts, relocated panhard bar, and a heavy gas tank. it has 1 inch between the frame and the u bolt on my axles. it bottoms out on everything, and with a full tank, it's like riding frame on axle almost. i'm running stock style shocks however front and rear.

Is this why the dropmember is so popular (because of the increased travel)?

Re: Drop Information

I'm planning on running a 4.5/6 package on my '72. ECE has a kit for 4/6 they offer for $700+/shipping. I plan on going through them, because they work everyday with these trucks and know how they operate.

Hey slammed1, any more pics of your truck other than what's in your thread in your sig?

Re: Drop Information

That is the set up I have too (2 1/2 spindles with 3 inch drop coil). It rides surprisingly well to me. I've had it about a month and bottomed once crossing an intersection going about 50 that had a rise in it. I think there's about 4 to 5 inch clearance at the lowest point (lower A arm). I did have to get aftermarket upper A arms designed for extra low trucks (mainly air bags I guess) to get my alignment back in spec. It took too many spacers with the 3 inch coil.

I have a C notch/panhard bar/shock relocation. I'm not sure the rear coil. I thought it was a 6 inch but I don't see that size for sale. You can lower more with lowering blocks if needed.

C-notch that thing,... install some drop shocks, remove the front bumpstop stands,... and enjoy your truck. You have all the right stuff. You just need to tweak a few things to make it easy on you back.

AMEN to that, its not just throwing on drop parts but paying attention to proper shock length, clearances of components like tires, wheels and axle and also correct bumpstops.
I preach that everywhere.

Re: Drop Information

Sctoi,
I like the stance your truck has. How did you modify your stock shock mounts to relocate the shocks?
Thanks,
Keith

Re: Drop Information

thanks for the compliments,
the tires are 255/60/15 front & 275/60/15 rear. I think the rims are 8.5 (same size all around). I put 1 inch spacers on the rear to make the tires more flush with the fenders. The track width was actually narrower in the rear than the front.

I will probably replace the rear coils with bags at some point as it can't carry much weight now (ride vs load).

Nice to know the specific bag manufacturer & number now (thanks Scoti).

No problem on the P/N's. I actually thought the suggestion in the thread starter was a good idea because many posts will say 4/6 drop but not list the specifics of how they arrived there.

Is your truck repainted the original Med Bronze?

The lower shock brackets that mount to the bottom of the trailing arm are flipped over & swapped from side to side. This lowers the location of the shock stud approx 1.5" in relation to the trailing arm. It requires some 'massaging' of the brackets to ensure that they lay flat against the bottom of the trailing arm (or you could slip in a .250" spacer/shim between the bracket & the arm).

The upper shock brackets had the holes relocated higher up on the bracket & more toward one end vs. the center & then excess metal was trimmed to allow the shocks to bolt-in w/o interference. The upper bracket mod also yielded about 1.5" of additional travel.

Re: Drop Information

I couldn't tell you the color as bought it like this. The top is more faded than it appears in the pics. I'm not crazy about the color but previous owner did a cab off job so I don't know if I'll just freshen it up or paint it something else (hate having to do something with the engine bay).

I have to credit the previous owner for all the hard work. I've just put in a R200 trans, insulated it, rebuilt front suspension, new power steering, lowered it & put in a stereo along with some cosmetic stuff.

Here's a pic of the dash. It's the freshest looking paint.

It looks pretty close to mine. I want to get mine back to the same color it is now but I'm afraid when I get the OE color mixed it's going to be different enough that I won't care for it.
