solenoid or starter switch?
I got this 6cyl 250 I got running after a 14yr old dirt nap. let it run for 30min and turned off and it wouldnt start, turn over. I cross the solenoid and fires right up, turns off with key but still wont turn over. It was fine earlier today.

Re: solenoid or starter switch?
Jiggle the shift lever in park or neutral while turning the key switch to start. It is an automatic right.

Re: solenoid or starter switch?
check the ignition switch with a voltage tester or test light, if not then check wiring to starter.

Re: solenoid or starter switch?
Did the heavy red wire at the poss cable pop the inline fuse or become disconnected? How about the connection at the junction block on the fender? That is the hot wire that feeds into the cab. Trace that wire with a test light. If you have 12v up to the switch but not after then the switch has gone bad.

I will check this but if the switch was bad then it would be bad and not be fine later, as in the case today when it woud turn over fine from the key. I know this car will have some eletric gremlins from sitting so long.

Re: solenoid or starter switch?
Sounds more like the switch if you didn't mess with any wires or cables under the dash. Or it could just be corrosion at any of the different contact points.

Re: solenoid or starter switch?
my 67 did this after siting forever. It would fire, run great then sometimes, nothing. Turns out the battery cable would hit the exhaust and ground out. killed the starter, but Got lucky and never burned it down or melt the wires, but that was the problem.

Re: solenoid or starter switch?
I had to replace the key switch. The plastic on the back side had melted and when it got hot wouldn't let the wires make contact. I looked for day's trying to figure it out.
