Fuel tank switch '86 vs. '87
I recently bought a fuel tank switch to use on my '86 truck. It turns out the switch I bought is for '87 and newer.
On the switch one of the four "poles" has a "bump". The only difference I can see is that the "bump" is on a different "pole" on the two switches. My question is, if I can remove the bump on the newer switch will it work on the older truck? I have to assume there is something different about the switches or why would they make them different? But if one will work in place of the other I will just figure out a way to remove the bump.

I think probably the same, bumps notwithstanding. To keep it simple, I would ohm meter each terminal and match them to one another. You're checking for s/w terminal continuity, not ohm resistance. I just changed my 87 s/w out and the orig one looks like yours on the left.

I would check them, they require different PN', but I don't know if it makes a difference. The 87 does have electric pumps...
