brakes ?
ok went this morning and got a new master cylinder for a 73 1/2ton c-10 cuz my 65 has newer 5 lug disk swap and i got rear disk to. so i go to the local u-pull-it to look for a booster to get for the cheap as a core, well i come across two 70 or 80's model chevy trucks with hydro boosters on it would i be better off get one of them since my 65 has 24's on it and im building a 383 with about 460hp and for a portioning valve i was going to get one from cpp for $75 for disk/disk not disk/drum. will the hydro boosters help me stop better with the biger wheels. thanks for any help

Re: brakes ?
I'm not too sure about this, but the booster pulls equally on both circuits, not one more then the other. What I'm saying is the hydra boost setup provides the pull on the master cylinder equally, so if you have the right master cylinder, a hydra boost should be the ticket. Hydra boost uses the power steering pump to provide power for what the vacuum booster usually does, so yo should be on the right track.
PS your truck would look sic laying rocker on those 24's! |

Re: brakes ?
Do you have an idea what your idle vaccum on the engine is? If you have enough cam to make 460 HP, you may find the vacuum a bit low. If so, the hydroboost booster would work better than a vacuum booster since the hydraulic pressure isn't affected by vacuum or engine load.
Of course, this assumes you have a power steering pump on your 383.

Re: brakes ?
keep in mind that BIG wheels require BIG brakes, the bigger wheel increases rolling mass even though overall diameter is close to the same as stock. you dont need to use aftermarket stuff, just look for newer chevy stuff at the wrecking yard, my new chev has 17 inch rotors on both ends. make take alittle modifying to fit and work, buts only metal. good luck

Re: brakes ?
your off to a good start, four wheel disc will help alot. the hydroboost will help alot as well. I just dont want your next post to involve an accident because of no enough brakes for your wheels. good luck
