Power Steering Pump

hey all,

im getting pretty close to having the Money Pit Drivable but there are a few things holding me up, can you guys tell if this power steering pump is from the Caddy or if it is the Pickup one by just looking at it. I have to go buy hoses but I dont know what the pump is from.

also,

what does it mean if there is a little bit of gas that seeps past this rod on top of the carb, the motor starts and runs ok, i was just wondering what might cause that

I ran both caddy & olds in the longhorn, & used the pump that was with the eng. they were mated to a 73-79 chev truck hose(flair nut fitting). take a look on the back of the pump, &see if it has the same type fitting as the end on the steering box. The older pumps had a differentstyle fitting if I remember correctly. Good luck...crazy AL

That pump looks identical to the one I am using on my truck. The one I'm using came off like a 78 Chevy 4x4 truck.

What year is the caddy engine?
I know it looks nothing like the original pump I have here from a '70 C/20.

The cause of the carb leak is wear in the shaft hole. One of the downfalls of the Rochester. Only solutions I know of are either bushing the hole or replacing the carb. I wouldn't recommend buying a rebuild, they usually aren't much better.

Looks like a regular GM pump with that style reservoir. Forgot to look if it was a pressed on pulley or not.

71 moneypit, the cad I ran was a 78 425......still looked like the same pump. gm parts have always been pretty swapable. I really think if you use hoses for a 73-79 1/2 or 3/4 ton 2wd you should have your hoses hooked. Good luck....crazy AL

Accelerator pump seal/Cup

When the accel pump seals leak it allows fuel into the area above the seals and will eventually leak fuel from the top plate. The shaft isnt meant to seal against the top plate, there shouldn't be fuel there to begin with.

High float levels will aggrivate this problem also.

You could just repace the pump seal/cup but I'd recommend rebuilding. This will correct any float height problems aswell.
