Has anyone tried to register their truck in Georgia with a vintage plate? After 2 phone calls to them, prior to finding a plate, and them telling me it would be no problem. I ended up at DMV today trumping every attempt they made at telling me I could not do it. Until they told me my truck needed to be older then 1970. So are they just telling me this to get me to go away, because they don't know how to do their job? Has anyone with a truck newer than 1970 registered in Georgia with vintage plate?

I would call the DMV in your state capital. They would know. Good Luck!

I have mine registered as vintage, but I live in Nebraska. The requirement here is that it has to be 30 years or older, and you have to have another vehicle registered as a daily driver. When I first tried to do it I went to the regular DMV and they told me they had never heard of it, they said who ever told me about it was wrong. Long story short, I called (their main office) where reinstatements and driving abstracts can be obtained and they could do it. It was a one time fee, and I got to use the plates I had from the correct year. Keep checking, I had to deal with idiots for over two years to do it.

does GA have a DMV website with all there laws posted?

I have checked into this. It does have to be 1970 or older. They recently changed from 1957 to 1970. My guess is that they cut it off at 1970 becuase that was the last year that they stamped plates with the year, with subsequent years using stickers.

A buddy of mine ran a vintage plate on his 39 chevy. He had to keep a current plate in the car to show any LEOs if he were to be checked. I wasn't aware that the cutoff had been moved up to 1970. I knew it had been 50ish in the past.

In Ohio it is a rolling 25 year thing. There are restrictions to usage too.

Hey LONGHAIR...can you give me more info on the Ohio restrictions? I have a set of 1970 plates. I have Historical plates on my truck now but I want to switch to the "70" plates. Thanks in advance.

71 was the last year they used plates, not 70. And that was only until 75, in 76 they started using plates again. I looked all over the websites, and found nothing. I called the DMV in Atlanta once, and the DMV here in Hinesville twice asking about it. All prior to me finding the plate. No one ever said a thing about it being 1970 and older. Now that I have the plate, they tell me this. Really drives me crazy, I hate the DMV. Does not matter what you are trying to do, or how often you have done it. Every time I go there I am always missing something. Its like they just flip through the roladex of excuses until you go away.

the restrictions are the same as your historical plates. I'll be doing this on my burb here in the next couple weeks myself. Right now the first coat of paint is setting up on the plates I intend on running., but I think I'm going to blast them again and start over... the paint looked kinda crappy IMO.
