What axle will work?

I have a '70 rear end, 6lug 30 spline. What can I get the axles from to make it a 5 lug and just swap into my housing and spiders?

You'll have to measure the wodth of the rear end. '70 was a chainge over year for the rea end width. Early '70 was narrow like the older ones, and late 70 was wider, which would match the 71 and 72 rear...which are both 5 lug.

If it's the wide housing, you can use 5 lug axles from 1971 to 1981 as long as it's a 12 bolt truck.

Re: What axle will work?

YESSSS!!!! I now have a 5 lug rear end. Got the axles from a '73. A friend of mine who has a junk yard had a couple axles sitting in a storage container for the last 10 or 15 years. $25 each.

Re: What axle will work?

Newb here, I hope this isn't too repetitive but what is the best junk yard route for the short axle guys to convert to 5 lug. I'm guessing a complete housing swap.
