Fast Drop
whats the quikest way to drop my 69 c10from the front and rear.
From the front end it looks like i can just cut down the springs, but the rear end looks tricky though. How do i mess with that. Im just looking for something temporary cause she's just sittin their for now. at least she'll sit prettier. |

Re: Fast Drop
cut 1 full ring off the bottom of the front coil (2 1/2" drop), & use a 2 " block on the rear (tween the diff & trailing arms). that will be the quickest/cheapest drop....crazyL

Re: Fast Drop
If it has Coil Springs all the way around you COULD just take a torch and heat each spring til it sags low... not a way id ever do it.... but i did back when i was in highschool and was poor and couldnt afford to do it right.... the ride quality SUCKS and its just not a real good idea...

Re: Fast Drop
cut one round off front coils and use late 60's - early 70's Chevelle / Nova / Malibu springs in the rear ... cheap and low

Re: Fast Drop
OK we have had a few good suggestions for a fast and cheap drop heating the springs up to collapse them being cheapest and fastest, thats what had been done to mine by the previous owner and it does handle like a pig.
But man I get confussed with all this stuff drop springs, drop spindals lowering blocks.. Example: Should you use drop coils with drop spindals or should they be used seperatly? If you use drop coils does this mean you don't need drop spindals? Does drop spindals override the need to fit drop coils? When do you use lowering blocks? Do you use lowering blocks instead of drop coils or with the coils? Or are the many combinations just down to personal choice? Lets say I want a level look front to back were the bottoms of the wheel arches meat the tops of the tires, what would I need to fit?

Re: Fast Drop
It's really not that hard just figure out how low you want your truck to sit... im going with a 3/4 drop on my truck, im achieving this with new springs all the way around. i was lucky enough to find new front and rear springs on the site for slightly less than retail and for about 250 bucks after i buy my new shocks i will have achieved the stance i want... but say your using drop spindles up front. i believe you can get them in a 1.5 lowering or a 2 inch lowering configuration. say you want a 4/5 drop you would use 2 inch drop spindles up front and 2 inch lowering springs to achieve your 4 inches of drop on the front.. then on the rear. im not sure if they make 5 inch rear drop springs but someone correct me if im wrong but you would use 4 inch lower springs on the rear with a 1 inch block.... make any better since?

You know. im not real sure.... i imagine a lot of people wanting to go with drop spindles opt to go that route so they can piece together a disc brake front end.... but maybe someone can help me out here.... any advantages or disadvantages to one over another? |

Re: Fast Drop
You can only go so far with either ... 2 /12" - 3" MAX on spindles OR approx 3" on springs before you start running into problems with scrubbing or with alignment issues. BUT, if you combine 2 1/2" drop spindles WITH 2 1/2" drop springs, you now have 5" of drop and can still align with minimum problems and not worry about anything hanging below the "scrub line/"
Hope this helps. Last edited by Shane; 03-12-2008 at 11:11 PM. |

Re: Fast Drop
I have a combo 2 1/2" spindle drop and a 2" spring drop; the main thing you have to be aware of with the spindle drop is that your wheel backspacing doesn't become an issue with the inside rim of the wheel hitting the edge of the lower control arm at the left/right steering limits.
