wiring question
I am putting together a wire loom for my truck. It is the one that runs along the firewall and down to the starter. I have found a splice that looks to be factory, but I am not sure, The funny looking white wire shown splices to 2 yellow wires. One goes down to the starter and the other to the distributor or coil I am not sure which.. Is this stock? what is the white wire and why is it a different insulation than the rest of the wires???

Re: wiring question
white wire is your resistor wire for the points.

Re: wiring question
It is the OE resistance wire for the points distributor. Points can't be ran with full battery voltage. The wire to the starter goes on the "R" terminal. It supplies the points with full voltage while cranking for easier starting. If you are switching to HEI, replace it with regular wire & leave out the "R" circuit.

Re: wiring question
So if I am running MSD forget the whole schmear? Just run a hot ignition wire full 12 volt and tape off these wires if i follow you correctly. S????
If i understand correctly the resistance wire supplys the volts while running in a resistance state and while starting .the R returns full olts to the points for starting. Since i am running MSD I will find a switched hot source and forget these wires.

That's assuming that you wire it up according to their instructions. In other words, you don't need to worry whether you activate it through a resistance wire, or straight 12 volts, or not.

Re: wiring question
"Full" MSD is what I got. Distributor, box, coil.

Re: wiring question
That's what I have. Love it to death. Hit the starter & it fires.
