Correct Trim? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I purchased this '68 last fall. It has 107,000 original miles on it. The previous owner did a god cosmetic "freshen up" on it. It has a 307, 3spd W/electric OD, which I have heard is kind of rare. My Father-in-law has an eye for details, and he says that the side trim is not correct. He says both the type and location are wrong, any thoughts?

the trim is NOT correct but I think it looks good... Not sure what is off of from your pics.. Have any close ups of the trim? Am I seeing correctly that the trim on the corners of the front fenders only makes it around the top then stops?? Looks like you got yourself a really nice truck though... I like it !! The correct trim for the truck is on this pic of mine..

yep, the upper trim wasn't even an option till 69. I agree, still a good looking truck

I'll have to brave the snowstorm we are having to go to the shed and get some close up shots. If the upper trim wasn't available until '69, what did Chevy do to transition between colors on a two-tone like mine? Or was mine not originally two-tone? I would really like to correct it, and put the correct lower trim on, but I think that might require a repaint.

there was no two tone like that. Only the roof, and below the lower trim were white, with the primary color inbetween.

Here are some closer shots, and the bed shot. Was the "Chrome" lettering on the tail correct? Anything else that you guys spot let me know, I love the trucks, but I don't know all of the smaller details yet.

the chrome lettering isn't original, aftermarket stickers actually.
The upper and lower trim as mentioned before
hub caps and trim rings are off later vehicles

You could try adding the later style trim. That thing looks way too nice to repaint. Love the colors.

BTW, you might want to change the red seat cover.

That trim is generic.It was sold as a bump protector as much as a trim piece.

I'd leave it as is, just change out the wheels, freshen it up under the hood, and get another seat cover for it. Good looking truck man, yours too c10addict.

that trim should only be held on with double sided tape.. call the guy you bought the truck from and see how long he waited to put it o after it was painted... I'd get the heat gun out and see if it would come off..... then you can just use pin stripe to break the colors..

Better in the long run.Now comes the opinion to be taken with a grain of salt(or salt substitute

)...Personally,I`d look into the cost of repainting the sides.It would be a simple scuff,mask,and shoot at this point.The truck doesn`t look bad.But,I know it would bug me until it was right.I`ve seen guys do their own thing over the years.I`ve just found it just doesn`t work for me.I like "custom" work,but not kind sorta factory.

Tim... I have to agree with you. Even though my plans for the burb are nowhere near factory, I have to remove all the lower side trim on mine vbacopuse I am going to a 68 front end, and the 69 & up trim would never look right to me... let alone the color being a 71/72 only color... so now, the replacement grill is causing a whole recolor.
Total bummer I think the 71/72 grill is so dam ugly.

robandmarilee, your truck looks very nice... the colors work well together, and it has a vibe of correct-ish-ness.
But it would bug the crap outta me.
But would I be willing to repaint a nice truck?

No tellin.. I could go on arguing with myself for hrs... I normally do, i dont have much to do.

I think eventually I will make it factory correct. For now it is a nice looking driver. Believe it or not the original ugly green seat is under that saddle blanket, and it is near mint. The cover was there when I bought it, just haven't got a new one yet. Thanx everyone for all of your help.

I'm "picking the fly sh*t out of the pepper" here Bob but the lower ivory color below the trim was only available on the 68 50th Anniversary option...and I know that you know this...LOL! I love the stance and wheels on your truck...sure you don't want to trade for some old school Western slots?

I know but I don't have any pics of any other 2 tone trucks but mine !! I like the western slots but I have a little to much in my wheels for a swap and I'm kinda attached to em ' . Be careful getting fly sh*t out of the pepper it's a stinky job !! LMAO
