Straight 6 - PERFORMANCE PARTS!!!
Guys,
I was visiting with PanelDeland 2 weeks ago at marietta and we talked about these intakes which can take a 6 cylinder and turn it into a 200+ HP machine.. I didn't know such existed, but now another buddy of mine has turned me onto this company. Apparently they sell all kinds of perf stuff for a 6banger. MAN I wish i knew about this when I owned my 64 Chevy Nova Coupe. http://www.cliffordperformance.com/home.htm anybody on the board have experiences with this stuff?? I think Deland is considering it (if the price gets right) and I know my father-in-law will try this if you guys think it's ok. Brian

They were a damn good company
I use some of their stuff on my truck and it is of quality. Unforunatly i think you guys are tooooo late. The company founder has died and the company being disolved. You might be able to squeze an order in, but I doubt you will get your product. Sorry guys, there are still some of their products for sale on ebay from time to time.

200 hp out of a newer six isn't that hard. A good book on the subject is Chevrolet Inline Six Cylinder by Leo Santucci. He even tells about making cross flow heads by cutting and welding SBC heads. I met a guy last year that was turning 11's with a 250 in a 63 Nova. No funny gas, turbos or superchargers, either. Dual 4 bbl 550? Holleys. My friend built a 261 that is in the 200 hp range. Crank & pistons balanced, head ported and shaved, cast Fenton headers, dual Holley-Weber deuces, Mallory Unilite ignition and MSD-6 box.

GOT ONE!
I have been working with a stock 292: Offy intake, Holley 390 4bbl, tube headers, HEI/MSD coil with a 700R4 & 4:10 posi. Blew a head gasket, so built a new 301: balanced, ported, bigger valves, Comp cam, hyper pistons & more compression. Cost too much, but looks & sounds COOOOOOOOOOOOl!
I have an extra Clifford intake, like new, half price, if anyone needs it. |

Clifford Headers
I have a set of Clifford Research (old name) "Vipar" headers on my 292. They ran from 1978 til this summer, when the engine finally gave out after 250,000 miles. The headers are still good -- and after I get them ceramic-coated, I will install them on my next engine, an L-6 292 bored .030-over (296") along with the Offy intake, Holley 390 cfm 4 Bbl carb. I'm also going with a Crane stage II cam, and sbc 305 1.84(?) valves.
Clifford made 6=8 a reality. It's a damn shame they're going under. I knew it was all over when they pulled the plug on their forum last month. Of course, Clifford wasn't the only candy store on the block. Check out www.stovebolt.com and www.inliners.org for more straight six info and leads to aftermarket parts.

INTAKE/EXHAUST MANS DON'T FIT!
Just another note, the Offenhauser intake & Pacesetter headers interfer with each other. Line one up & the other will leak. You have to grind the manifold & dent the headers.
It might be easier to run both Clifford parts, that were designed to work with each other. I will take $125 for my extra Clifford intake. Oh, I just went and took another look at that Clifford 4bbl intake...it has never been bolted on to an engine-NEW-NEW-NEW! It is headed for the Parts Board soon. geez...decisions decisions.
I too am deciding whether to keep the or find a 350 or 454 to build. The current 250 is still going strong and just needs some cleaning up with some go fast goodies and that intake is real tempting. I'm just not sure if it will look right because I will be leaving the inner fenders off and bagging it. If I go custom, I probably should go custom all the way with a big block. I'm still up in the air though. btw, pckmp that's a nice motor you got there. Sorry to pirate this thread but I had to put in my .02 jay

they are a good company. i used to belong to a f@rd straight six board and those guys were pushing over 300hp from 300 straight sixes. they showed me a couple of mods to do to my f@rd soon to bump the power ( think 5.0 injectors and adjustable fuel pressure regulator ). should be able to tow almost anything after that and still get half decent mileage. they always have good things to say about clifford perf.
