Need Advice

I was hoping to get some advice from you guys on putting vintage air in my 70 c-10. If I don't order my system by March 31st the price goes up $150 because of their price increase.

I have a 327 in my truck now that is great but when it gives up down the road I plan on upgrading to the new 5.3L and a 4l60e or a LQ9. So my question, do I get the A/C now or do I wait it out for the new motor?

Has anyone had a vintage air system with the older engine and then converted it to work with the engines of today? I just don't want to buy it now to save a $150 and then turn around a couple years later and have to spend three times that converting it to work with a newer motor. But then again if I can save $150 now and it only costs me $150 down the road to convert it over I would get it now.

Thanks Guys

Re: Need Advice

call vintage air and ask them about what would be the difference for the 2motors,i'd think it would be a common problem that they have a solution for

Re: Need Advice

you would probably have to rig up the new compressor, if even that, and have the system recharged, but you should call them and find out b4 spending any money, but u are going to want A/C this summer.

Re: Need Advice

I just called them and they said I would have to use a compressor that is for the newer engine, re-crimp new fittings that go to the compressor if the hoses are long enough, if they are not replace hoses, and they recommend replacing the dryer when switching out compressors. What do you guys think, is it worth it?

Re: Need Advice

so that is about $200, mabye $300? that's worth getting it now and fixing it later to make it fit, i say be comfortable this summer and get it now, and just spend the little extra money later to make it fit.

Re: Need Advice

That is what I was hoping you guys would say. I just needed to hear it from some one else.

When I emailed vintage air they gave me a price of $1,162.79 for their surefit system with a modified coil to run a 4-way bulk head, including the bulkhead and provisions to run a smooth fire wall out the door price. When I just called them up the sales representative quoted me $1295. So I dont think their prices are set. Has any one been able to get them come down in price? If so how much?

Call them back and tell them you have an email quote for the $1,162.79. If you're in the same state you have to pay taxes. You also have to pay shipping, I think for me it was about $75?

When you buy the new gen motor, get it COMPLETE and you will have a "free" A/C compressor. My truck has 112K and is 8 years old and it still blows ice cold. Just get new fittings and you'll be done If your VA compressor is fairly new, you can sell that as well....

Re: Need Advice

I really think they are all wet The only differance should be changeing the compressor pully for the serpintine belt and maybe some brackets. hardly $300 worth. The new kit and compressor should be for 134a all ready. If you use your old compressor you can change over to 134A for about $100

It also a new dryer, and they don't give those away free, and i'm sure 134 is what Vintage Air uses

Re: Need Advice

Thanks guys for all of the feed back. I am going to order it today.

I already have a factory a/c controller, 4-core radiator, electric fan, and a three groove water pump pulley. Do I need a 3 grove crank pulley or is there an adaptor that will add one more groove to my original crank pulley. I do have power steering.

Is there any thing else I need?
