76' C-10 Stepside resto.

Hello to all members. I am new to this site, this is my first post. I live in California. I am currently working on my Stepside that was given to me by my grandfather many years ago. I finally got the paint job completed and damn it looks good. The paint i choose was Black with a red pearl. This was a frame up restoration. Has new energy suspension bushings all the way around. A fresh 350 motor, which will soon be replaced. I replaced the hood with a 2'' goodmark cowl (pic below). At this point ive been working on the wood for the bed. A very time consuming task but well worth it. Ordered the wood pre-cut and drilled, and stained it with a dark red oak and am now finishing it up with spar varnish (pic Below). There are many mods to come. Including a LQ4 6.0L/4L80E, 4-link rear, Tubular A-arms and coilovers up front, Rear disk brakes or possibly a quick-change rear end all together. Also just picked up a Paxton centrifugal supercharger. We will see what happens!

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.

Ill get more pics up soon. The truck is not completely put together right now. Bed is off waiting for the wood to be completed and the rear fenders are also off at the moment. The wood is furniture grade oak. And i chose a polyurethane spar varnish, cant remember the brand right now. Good stuff. Im on the 4th coat right now. From what ive read a good 5 coats is about the minimum on top, 3 coats on bottom. 8 coats on top with block sanding in between each coat for that glass look. Ill probably end up going 1-2 more. . . Havent chosen the A-arms or coil-overs yet. Waiting til the truck is put back together so i can choose the right spring rate and ride height i want. Still need to purchase the motor/tranny but that should happen soon enough. But for now the stock 350 with a set of vortec heads that i already have, a holly street dominator carb, headman headers, and my paxton novi-3000 running about 5-8 lbs of boost should do for now. Hope i dont blow it!

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.

Here some more pics.......

This is the first time i saw the truck painted after about 2 years of weekends every now and then working on it. The shop is about 100 miles from my house so it took awhile.

This is on the way home stopped at a gas station. I was still trippin out on how good it looked.

More pics to come as progress moves along.

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.

So progress is moving right along. Got the 5th coat of varnish on the wood, its lookin awesome. Started re-finishing the brackets for the front turn signals and rear tail lights. Im almost ready to put the bed back together. I cant wait! I just bead blasted my headers and there about to go on. Since i have this supercharger sitting, ive been trying to figure out where to take it. I got it to go on a LQ4 6.0L when im able to afford it. But as of right now, i got the itch, i just want to use it and see what i can do. Im thinking of finding an LT1 or Vortec top end with all the fuel injection, wiring and computer to put on the vortec heads i already have. Be alot easier for tuning the FI. We'll see what happens, gotta get the truck put back together first.

Re: 76' C-10 Stepside resto.

So its been a while but im back on the project full bore. Works been crazy and finally have some time to get on top of things again. The wood is done, just awaiting a wetsand and buff. I have the interior apart as of now. Laying down a good layer of sound deadening undercoating on every inch of the interior along with heat shield and insulation matting. Pics to come. Also new carpet. Ive been looking for newer chevy truck buckets to replace the old bench but not sure on that yet. And finding one cheap enough is also challenging. But all and all its coming along and should be back on the road blowin' the doors off rice rockets soon enough.

Looks awesome. Glad your back in full swing on it. Have you considred a set of factory low back buckets? I hear they ride well, and would like sweet in there.

Thats a thought. Ive been considering everything at this point. Dont want it to be just like every other hotrod pickup out there. The interior is up in the air at this point. Ive kinda changed my goals for the suspension and transmission. Or should i say tranny and t-case. More details to come. espesially when the parts start piling up. But for now i just want to get it drivable and finished.
