72 K5 - Worth saving?
Rescued from the crusher. I have too many projects going now. Is it worth saving?

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
That tub looks fairly solid. It's better than many that have been saved.

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
I'll hang on to it for now and not let it get any worse.
The rear bed floor had some holes torched in it to mount the recessed mounting brackets for what I think are later 73-91 Blazer or Burb seats but the metal is solid at the holes so I think I caught it just in time and can be repaired fairly easy. No major rust issues in the tub or the windshield frame that i can see from the outside. |

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
Nice shell that originaly was well optioned. Definately worth holding onto until you can find a good deal on a rusty but complete blazer; then you can swap all the missing parts from the rusty blazer onto the solid body (or vise versa). Personally I wouldnt try to find the missing parts piece by piece, ultimately will cost to much!

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
If you decide that you want to part it out, I am interested in the windsheil frame down to just below the upper hinge area, if it is rust free. I am going to have the piece reproduced so that they are availible for everyone. WES

CST, A/C, I am afraid you have to save it. Make it a 2x4 its seems like less work than finding a front end and transfer case.

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
It's a 71, look at the rear view mirror, 72's are attacted to the windshield not the body.
Hatch looks real decent, how about some more pics of the top.

That thing is in great shape. Don't turn it in to a Hyundai.

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
TTT - What's it worth?
Jason, how about these doors? 72blazer_mud_bogger, I'll post some pics this weekend of the dash and the windshield frame for Wes. If I were to sell I think the going rate for a decent tub is around $500.00 from what I have seen posted minus the front clip doors & top and interior. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this. I think HartRob had a bare one posted for around that $, I'll double check. Jtux, I tried the vin decoder on this site and I thought it was a 72. (VIN # CKE182F) Did some 72's have the early style mirror? Will post pics of the top also. Thank's for the input guys!!!!!!!! |

I always thought the rear view mirror was attached to the windshield in 72 and to the windshield frame in prior years, someone chime in here. Critter I know you know the answer to this one.

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
As far as I know 72 trucks, blazers and Subs had the rear view glued to the windshield. The Vin CKE182F does point to a 72 though. Maybe someon just bolted a mirror to the winshield frame or it has been swapped out at some point. In addition, the rear part of the frame and the tub right below the tailgate are different from the previous years. Do you have a picture of that area? Does the Vin on the door jamb match with the SPID in the glove box?

Re: 72 K5 - Worth saving?
72 only had the rear frame horns downturned and bumper bolts to them, not brackets. The rear of the tub where it meets the frame and gate is notched for these curves

Critter, I'll check the frame horns and post pics of them too. I'd like to be sure of the year. |
