headers for bagged trucks

im trying to find some headers for my truck that dont go below the frame rails, i got some patriots that i thought would fit but they hit the engine mounts. im told block huggers shouldnt be used because the front crossmember will be in the way.. would regular headers work with my 2 1/2 inch Z? need some help... thanks

what im worried about is the front tubes on # 1 and 2 cylinders. thats where they would hit the mounts if there was an issue

I am using the Chevelle 3/4 lengths, but I switched to the 73-87 style engine mounts. Plenty of room...

i found some that look like they would work but it says "chevy v8 conversion 87-95".
my heads are 86, are the exhaust ports and bolt holes different?

The exhasut ports on the SBC are all the same.

So when you use these headers do you run into any problems or any close calls? For example: the steering linkage is really close to the headers but they still clear, that sort of thing.

Those are the Jeep conversion headers. I've heard of some guys on here using them, but I don't know how the fit is...

Those are the ones I used. If you look around on eBay, you can catch them on sale. They sell their returns for ~$100. Mine had a few scratches where it looked like someone installed them and then sent them back. Doesn't matter to me- it's not a show truck and they work great for what I paid for 'em...

Those do look nice, especially the coating. I recently got a pair of ceramic coated headers, and the coating looked like silver paint. Pretty ugly. The ones in the link above say they are "polished ceramic." It almost looks like stainless.

gringo, did you buy from the same company as the link above? do you know why the auction say there are a limited quantity available? If I wont be able to get these a year down the road, I might just buy a pair now.

You can polish the silver paint looking ones too, just like you would polish aluminum. Dunno on the limited quantity- I do know that I've had mine for a while and they're still selling them...

they have an ongoing auction for them every time I look, but I guess you never know.

What motor mount towers are those Gringo? And do you have a picture from the bottom?

gringo, thats what i was going to ask,, it looks like those motor mounts are different then mine

I re looked at the post of his and they are 73-87 motor mount brackets. But would still like a pic of the bottom to see how low they hang.

ok so they wont work with the brackets from a 67-72...the front tubes will hit the mounts

That is what I am thinking I know the towers on the 67-72's sit higher, but man that is a good deal on headers!
