Cab Marker Lights?
I am considering adding cab marker lights to my 72 pickup. There are a lot of different kinds available. If you have do this what did you buy and can you post a picture?

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
I put them on most of my trucks. I have a 70 stepside now with them. I get them from J.C. Whitney but I noticed LMC has the same thing. They are close to both of us. I don't think I can post a photo. I,m haveing a little trouble with my computer & i'm not too good at it.

Which kind from Whitney? I can't decide which will look the best.

those look good and they are reasonably priced, let me know if they are good ones, i might have to put em on one of mine.
i think these would look good as side marker lights or frenched into a stepside fender |

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
I`d use the factory type. They just look right and will always be available(to fit the holes in the roof).

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
Freak, Don't take this wrong, I was looking at those when I was at LMC, and I thought they looked a little oversize for our cab size. What is your opinion?

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
freka, they may be original, that is the kind that came on 67/68, and all DRW trucks had to have them.
70 GMC, that isn't what came stock on your truck. If you had factory ones, they'd be like the amber ones in the photo in my responce above. |

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
Whatever you do,don`t use those botched-up marker lights they stick on the late-model GMs.I`m so embarrased that GK came along and busted a tradition with their "attempt" at being stylish.Ford was bad enough with their evenly spaced thing for years. These lights are a truck tradition and belong three centered with two outer to each side.
If you use what was used by the factory it`ll just look right.Anything else will be something you decided to stick up on top of your roof. Before`69,the chrome housed teardrops were offered as an option. They were pretty generic back then. Then, came the specific design for specic trucks.

I dont think they are too big.......as a matter of fact, when I took the originals off to paint it, I decided to try to find some bigger ones that looked good on the truck. I could not find anything I liked so I ordered new ones like the originals. I will take some closer pics later today.

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
If I was going to add them (my truck has the raised roof bumps already) I would go with the Ford style in the first pic you posted. The other ones don't look as good, imo.

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
I kinda like the ones with the chrome fairings, but you have to be careful in placing them because the mounting surface of the light is slightly concave to conform to the roof line.
Something I've done (legal or not) is put the cab lights on a separate switch. If you've ever driven a truck with cab lights in a heavy fog, you'll know why. (The lights create an amber aura that hurts your visability.)

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
I'm not sure on how that would go with DOT regs... being the L9000 ford semis have it on a seperate switch.
Not that any cop in the US would even know that a 68 with a flat bed is required. |

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
How do you run the wires in the double wall roof when adding lights to a truck that doesn't already have them?

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
Just think it over 3-4 times and set the lights on the roof in the daytime and wire them external and sit on roof at night to get a feel and make sure you want them (its a ***** filing those holes back in)

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
Trucks aren't allowed in the hammer (left) lane on the Expressway in NY... so truckers will throw them on a separate switch to make up some time at night.

Re: Cab Marker Lights?
I don't know if I could pull the trigger on the drill. Intentionally drilling holes in the roof feels really wrong. Looks nice on the flat-bead though.
