From the looks of one of the pics, looks like the rockers where replaced once already. And the replacements are gone lol... good luck with that one.

Nope original rockers, I drilled out factory spot welds and pulled the rockers off already.

o well it looks like the rocker was replaced and tacked in, the tack spots look real clean as opposed to the swiss cheese around it. Anyway if you want to add more pics and dont want to upload em to this site, just use image shack or photo bucket. Then use the insert image button on the forums. You can add more than 5 pics a post too.

not sure if your looking tha the same thing i am, but the things that look like a spot weld is actually a drill mark from the drillbit he used to break the spotwelds

thats what it looks like to me anyway

Wow, that is some serious cancer. I would have considered that cab pretty much gone.. Hopefully I wont feel that way one day (like yourself).

I cant wait to see the progress. This forum really motivates me to improve my metal working skills.

i bought a 71 out of TN and it was way worse! did all the work in gravel driveway

that would of been a scrap cab to you? must be nice to live in AZ... that cab is WAY better than most in the rust belt

We are definately spoiled. A lot of the older stuff around here has been in CA,NV,AZ their whole lives (like my 72, and the other one I had for a while from CA). Not a spec of anything more than surface rust besides the bed around the lower fenders, and even that was negligible.

With the repro parts available, I think I would be able to handle it on my own. Cut out the cancer, measure to excruciating accuracy, tack , remeasure, and finish weld while shaping where it needs too. Im sure its quite a bit more difficult to make it all fit right than it would seem. My next truck (67, 6cyl/3 on the tree small window LWB fleet, I think), I think it would be fun to buy a really gnarly cab and replace the metal on my own. It will be a heavilly custom build... I'd just like to be able to say there isnt a square inch I havent worked myself.

ive got 4 cabs that are minesota lifers and they are all far worse id gladly have one like that, the wort ive got the floors rusted apart all the way door to door and 2 cab monts roted off leaving it imposible to close the doors

Honestly when I first looked at the truck I thought it was pretty bad, but once I cracked the rockers off and had a closer look, it wasen't that bad compared to a lot of others I've seen, not only that this is the drivers side which is probably going to see more abuse through it's life rather then the passenger side. I made the dolly so I can roll it out on a nice day, when it rains I just wheel it under the balcony, unfortunately I don't have the luxury of having a shop. Thanks for all the comments so far it's keeping me motivated.

Wow, looks like you are working on my truck, same color, same process. Keep up the great work! When my friends and family came by to see what I was doing and the cab was up on a dolly and all cut up I think they wondered if I could put that puzzle all back together. Actually I wondered a few times too
