Red face Bringing my first love back on the street

Hey all,

Getting ready to pump some life back into my '69.

Any suggestions as to things I may need to check. It's been a little over a year since there's been any fire coming out of her tailpipes. I've done alot of things to get her ready, just give me a few ideas that you think I might have missed before the big day comes

Well, wish me luck.

Blaze, lets see.... How about the braking system. Check for any leaks at the wheel cylinders and make sure everything is free and operable. Ummm.. Grease everything up real good ,steering, suspension, u-joints. I'm guessing that you have put fresh fuel in it. Condition of tires, shocks. Correct operation of all electrically operated componants. Cooling system- flush entire system. Change radiator cap or just check if you have the means to do so. Replace thermostat. Check condition of hoses. Well, in general, just check everything!! Good Luck

Thanks for the stuff, so far i've done most of that. I did have a brain fart and left the gas in waaaaaaay too long. Took me awhile to get it all out.
BTW,what's the best recommended way to lube the engine.

fire up ?

i suggest you shoot some marvel mystery oil in each spark plug hole and put a long screwdriver down the distributor hole and prelube it with a drill driver. also check all hoses for dry rot. just my 02 cents

Well , let's see. I finally got my Blazer to start up whoooaaaa! now that took some time. I took apart my carb and thought I had cleaned it all out-----NOPE. Forgot to check one place, and wouldn't you know it, it wasn't getting any gas. Took care of that and it fired right up. Smoked out the hood for awhile. But who cares my machine was up and running.
Next I found out I didn't have any fluid in the tranny (took 3 1/2 quarts). After adding that it moved just fine. The brakes seemed a little locked and the inside was dusty as hell.
So I parked it in the shade on some level concrete. and gave it a good rinse down, the washing will come later.

Things to do:
1. address the tranny fluid leak and change filter and fluid.
2. Change the oil and fluid in front and rear dif. and lube chassis
3. Change the antifreeze out.
4. Flush the brake system.
5. I think I may drop the tank and clean it out, I need to replace the filler hoses anyway.
6. Change over to an internal alt.
7. Change the front drums to disc, donor is an '85 blazer.

and last but not least..........Give it a good cleaning inside and out.

As a matter of fact, it doesn't even sound as though it's been sitting for a while. Lucky me, I guess.
