72 GMC leaf springs Frame

i got a lead on a SWB GMC leaf spring frame, dose anyone know if it will swap under a 72 Chevy? My guess is everything is the same execpt the leaf springs. I plan on baggin my truck so I was thinking of running a two link off the front leaf spring hangers and then run a panhard bar.? Is it doable that way or can I completely convertert it to a coil spring frame? Then do that bags that way?

Same frame, just has different hangers for the leafs. You can easily convert it to coils. Or you can leave the leafs and bag it that way. That's what I'm doing for now.

Re: 72 GMC leaf springs Frame

Are you sure it is leaf spring?

Seems to be the idea that GMC's were all leaf. I have a 69 and 72 GMC longbox, both are coil.

Re: 72 GMC leaf springs Frame

i think ive read that gmc came standard with leaf springs but could be ordered with coils and the chevys had coils standard and could be ordered with springs. back in the day it was very common to order the vehicle just like you want it instead of picking off the lot like we do now

Do you have any pictiures of how your going to bag the rear?

Is it going to be better to convert to the coil spring items (k-member,crontrols arm & spring pockets) or just bag as is possibley using a two link off the leaf mounts or just go all out for a triangled four link? I am going to picking this frame up next week hopefully and want to begin ordering parts for the lwb-swb & bags conversion. This frame will save me the head-ache of haveing to cut down the stock one. as I will have everything I could use from my truck, its a LWB with power steering, disc brakes, A/C

ECE has a extreme drop crossmember that you could purchase, then install it and cut off the leaf hangers, do a clean job removing them and someone may buy them from you. Use everything else from your lwb plus add the bags. Done deal

This isn't mine, but it's close to what I want to do. This is going to be a temporary thing until I can afford a KP cantilever setup.
