Steering confusion
Im thinking of buying a 87 chevy c10 for the eng/trans it has the 5.7throttlebody engine with a 700r4 trans.I have heard the steering gear will fit my 67 c10 but I will have to dimple the frame like the 69 and ups.Does anyone know if this is true?If it will fit what about the pitman arm/steering linkages what to use?Thanks for any help on this.I know I will need another column.

Yes, it will work if you dimple the frame a little bit. The other problem that you will have is that the power steering box is metric and will probably use o ring fittings instead of the flared fittings.

just swap the whole crossmember,thats how i done mine...mine was a 69 so i didnt have to dimple the frame

Ask first,I think the 87 is one year past the year to swap crossmembers.
IIRC the 86 was the last year before the frame change unless the donor is a 'burb or blazer.

87 is still the old body style in the truck line, it changed over in 1988 and in 1992 for the burbs and blazers. The 73 and up trucks use a long water pump and the 67-72 use a short pump so if you use the pump and bracket from the 87 you will have to use all the brackets and a long water pump too.
