drum brakes
Can anyone tell me the difference between front and rear brake drums on a 69 GMC two wheel drive? I fitted a rear drum on the front and it seemed to fit fine. I did not install it as I just wasnt sure. The parts store shows a 75.00 difference between front and rear but cant tell me why. The local salvage yard says there is no difference. Who can say for sure. Thanks

There should be no difference in price on the front and rear drums you describe. Also the drums should be the same. I have seen a number of mail order catalogs that have the same part number for the front and rear drums you describe. In fact I did use a rear drum from a spare rearend (67)and put it onto the front (68) and have not had a problem with it. For the most part all drums should be the same on 2wd during the 67-70 years. Not sure on this but I have heard that the drums are the same as far back as 1960 for these trucks front and back.

All I can think of is that they must be selling you a hub with drum for the front.

Theyre probably giving you the price on the 3/4 ton brake drums. Big difference between front and back on those! If they're like most parts guys I deal with they dont know their ass from hole in the ground and they only work in parts stores because they dont have any skills to get real jobs.

thanks
Ok, Thanks everyone for their responses. I kinda figured I would be safe in using the same drums and after reading your replies I feel that is the way to go. I will let you know after the weekend how it went. Thanks again. Mark R.
