Re: engine stand

unless you can get the materials for free,or you really want the challenge of building it yourself....they are pretty reasonable to buy.

Re: engine stand

i paid 50 bucks at HF for the 1000 lb stand. the 2000lb folding cost about $110. i can understand if you want to build it yourself, but personallly I would rather put that tiime into my build.

Re: engine stand

I buy this one from harbor freight. They are the best stand for the money I have found. Have 2 right now.

I started building my engine test stand last night.

Re: engine stand

Unless you have the heavy wall square tubing and casters already you can probably buy it cheaper than you can build it.I priced steel for a 4X8 workbench a few weeks ago and for 6 legs 30 in.2x2 angle for a frame and 1/8 sheet 4X8 was about $1000.00 and that's no typo.

Re: engine stand

I've seen them at Costco too.
But, beings that they "turn the store over" ever 30 days, they may not always be available.

I built mine from scrap. But at that time I worked in a refinery and was able to scrounge free steel from the "boneyard." And, I was taking a welding/metal shop class at night at the local H.S., so I had a complete metal shop with all the fancy equipment at my disposal.
I learned how to run a vertical mill on that particular project.

Re: engine stand

I agree.... buy the HF one, while your there buy some better casters so it will roll around easier.
My buddy says mine looks like a monster truck.... I went a little overboard but it rolls super easy, I even rolled it through the grass in the front yard (with the motor on it).......because I could..
