Axle bumper brackets, any idea why...
... somebody would have cut these? it's been done to both sides.
were they just angled 45 degrees down before?

In the first post I don't know but in the second post, the pictures look like it's just extra metal from forming the bracket.

looks like they welded the seams of the stampings at the factory where they came together... the first one was a Wednesday truck, the second one a Monday?

While not quite as "chewed up" looking, mine appear to be oddly shaped as well.

The metal fatigues and distorts in the stamping process, a flat piece of metal turned into that bracket, nothing unusual there, just metal being stamped, check out the corners on your fenders, flat metal doesn't like to be bent and sqeezed.
