Brake Light Wire??
I'm trying to wire the lock up switch for my 700r4 and I'm supposed to tap into the brake light switch. I found a bundle that runs by the steering column with an orange wire in it. Is this the one I need to tap into? Assuming of course that the wires are colored correctly and not fubar'd by the PO. Thanks.

Re: Brake Light Wire??
Even looking at my newly printed and laminated color wiring diagram, its hard to tell exactly, since the brake lights, turn signals, and 4 way flashers all use the same wire running back to the lights.
It does appear that the brake light switch is fed by an orange wire and a black wire is on the other side. Often, a black wire indicates a switch supplying a ground rather than 12V. If that didn't make sense, for example, the horn relay is always hot, but when the horn button is pressed, it then gets the needed ground to complete the circuit. If you find the color wiring diagram in the FAQ section (sticky at the top I think), the brake light witch connector is to the left of the left half round steering column connector in the center of the drawing. Good luck! |

Re: Brake Light Wire??
I can't remember the colors off the top of my head... but on the brake pedal, is the brake light switch. Prope the wires. One will be hot, the other not. Now depress the pedal with your hand and probe the dead one... it should now be hot.
The one that was not hot at first... is the one you need to take the power off of. |
