Original Resto or Custom?

So I'm going to be buying DesertPOS's 69 C-20. It's a clean looking truck; http://picasaweb.google.com/Chris.Schutt/69ChevyC20 take a look at it and let me know what everyone thinks. Should I go as original as possible or do it custom? Just looking for some opinions. Trucks at a good price $3200 and is already a good daily driver so it'd be a slow resto but still want opinions. Thanks

Tony

Mild custom C/20.Are both rear wheels the same?I say get any loose ends tied up.Go over the little things it needs and go from there.I bet you can`t wait to get home now!As if you already didn`t.

Re: Original Resto or Custom?

what do you mean about the rear wheels? it has the old steel rally wheels on it like the ones that came on it I think haha. I was looking at headers, true duals and cherry bombs for exhaust...maybe getting rid of the quadra jet and putting on a edelbrock 600 cfm carb, and if there's room throwing one of the taller intakes on it. Plus it comes with the whole 4 wheel disc brake set up which would be a whole new world for me cause i've never ventured into brakes.

Man you got a great deal on that it looks almost perfect and right in the money you wanted to spend. Get back over here safely state side and drive it for awhile and the ideas will come naturally.

Re: Original Resto or Custom?

that's true. and the guy DesertPOS (Chris) is an awesome guy. He's about 2 hours away but that's fine by me cause I"ll drive two hours cause I really think this is a hell of a deal. And with him currently using it as a daily driver I know it's reliable cause i'm only going 15 miles each way to work so it's not like she's going on any major road trips

Re: Original Resto or Custom?

Personally, I'd go "resto plus". Its pretty hard to beat how these things looked off the showroom floor- so i'd base it on that. On top of that, add anything that you personally like. IMO, the best trucks are the ones which are somewhat close to stock but with the owners own little touches. Stereo, dash, wheels, drivetrain, gas filler, stance - all come to mind. The main thing is, build what you want and have fun.

I have to mention that it looks damn good the way it is now. Nice score!

Re: Original Resto or Custom?

I was just thinking the rear wkeels didn`t match. One looks wider or more offset in the picture. Not knocking the truck, that`s for sure.I was just looking real close at the wheels because I WANT THEM!
I think that`ll look good with "classic" custom wheels,headers & duals,stockish appearance.
Don`t toss the Quadrajet for an Edelbrock. That Edelbrock will never give you the service that a Rochester has.I won`t buy a carb from a manifold company.Go with Holley if you want a 600cfm.

Re: Original Resto or Custom?

Haha yeah I hear you about Edelbrocks the only reason I bought them in the past was cause I don't know a lot about carbs and was told they're easy to install...and that holleys are better just harder to install..shoot I may just keep that Rochester on there we'll have to see

Re: Original Resto or Custom?

I am going with keeping the body original. Far as everything else...well... interior somewhat custom...motor not even close to original....exhaust no where close...wheels and tires nope..custom there too!

I know the feeling! My girl friend didnt understand what I was doing when I ripped every last nut bolt and screw out of the 69 in the garage. She walked out there and asked why I was destroying the truck! She asked me if I was scrapping it! I explained the best I could...not sure if she still really understands.

Re: Original Resto or Custom?

haha yeah I hear ya there caminokid sometimes those female types just don't understand man. Like the running joke between the wife and I is "only 15 more minutes babe" haha cause that's always what I tell her when we're working on the truck but the cool thing is even though she gets tired of me saying only 15 minutes she doesn't complain and always figures out what i did and compliments it...don't know how she does it but she does that's my wife for ya
