big update, lotsa pics!

well I started a thread a while ago about tire sizes for my truck, I promised and update after I boughtt new tires, so here it is....of course you all know that you can't just do one thing once you get started so.....new tires turned into new(er) engine and one peice driveshaft as well. We planned on just swapping out the tired 327 for the newer, regasketed and sealed 86 gmc 350 in a weekend, but once we got into it we decided to fully detail the engine bay. By WE I mean me and my Dad, he helped me out a ton working on it weeknights while I was 500km away working. I made 3 weekend trips back to work on it before we finished. Dad also donated a lot of parts here and there, as well as the engine itself which he paid $200 for.

what's the last thing you do before you pull a hurting engine and put on new tires and driveshaft?

this is after a day of pressure washing and scrubbing the engine bay. I was tired of the faded black, green and blue patches and yellow over spray.(can you blame me?)

the paint we used on the block has to be sprayed in two stanges to get a nice sparkle: silver

don't mind the ugly master cylinder, I have a front disk conversion kit ordered and on it's way that I'll install in the next few weeks so I'll clean up the mc then. After the brakes it'll be time for a posi unit in the rear.

The engine swap was actually done about a month ago but I've been having too much fun with the truck back on the road to post pics.

Re: big update, lotsa pics!

engine looks really good, i wish ida known to spray a coat of silver on first to get the blue to pop like that. I just painted my engine blue too. One word of advise, get rid of the plastic fuel filter, they will melt, crack, leak, catch fire, and all around ruin your work

Re: big update, lotsa pics!

thanks chrislehr

and berencam thanks for the tip, I was unaware of problems with the plastic filters, I'll pick up a new one on the way home from work tomorrow.

and before anyone says anything about the FRAM oil filter, don't worry that came out after the first week of driving when I changed the oil, I replaced it with a NAPA Gold. If it wasn't for the great members of this board always watching out for eachother I would trust a lot more that the advertisers tell us.
