Heater Core Questions

I'm preparing to replace the core in my 72 and have some questions. There are 2 sizes of hoses, 5/8" and 3/4". Is the 3/4" the top? And does the top hose connect to the waterpump or the intake? I had a friend helping me the last time this was done and he was the one taking care of it. I may be over cautious, but will it make any difference how it is hooked up?

In order of flow:
5/8's hose coming from the intake manifold(supply) goes to the lower connection on the heater core. The upper connection on the heater core is a 3/4 hose going to the waterpump (return).

Thanks Piston. I was pretty sure that was how it was supposed to be, but I wanted some outside confirmation.
