Anyone running a Weiand Intake..
With a QJet?
I am considering a Weiand 8004 Action Plus Intake or an Edelbrock 2101 Performer instead of the cast Iron stock for a little better performance and hopefully mileage. Are they essentially the same type Manifold? Anyhelp would be helpfull. Thanks Ron

You should get a little more performance out of either, but in my experience, I doubt you'll see a mileage increase. Bigger plenums and runners typically use more fuel.

This will be the only time I will have to disagree with you man! I had a complete performer package on my 350 I had in my 77 SS El Camino. Cam, intake and carb. I also had Hooker super comps and duals with glass packs. I was able to go 311 miles on 3/4 of a tank. Before I swapped everything out....I was lucky to go 200 miles on a full tank. I guess doing a full package and tuning everything right you can get mileage. Now I dont know if I could do the same with one of our trucks...but you should be able to get a little better mileage.

I have never noticed any power or economy benifits from just an aluminium manifold change. The two manifolds your talking about are basicaly just coppies of a stock chevy manifold. They will give a bit more power at rpms over 2500rpm, but not realy noticeable in the seat of your pants. When you change cam, manifold and carb, its more likely the cam that gives you more economy and power. An aliminium manifold did give me better cold drivabilty, and alow me to have the choke come off sooner. For better economy with just a manifold change you can rejet the carb and play around with the adjustable power valve in a Q jet.

I had a Weiand 8004 once and I liked it alot. I generally like the look of the Performer better, but I think the Weiand makes better torque. As far as better performance, i've always noticed more with aluminum intakes over stock.

Everyone told me the adapter plate I had on the Q jet manifold was why my mileage dropped so much. So I bought a Performer intake and it didn't make any difference whatsoever. So in my side by side comparsion experience, the Q jet manifold with an adapter got the same mileage as the Performer. I later put a new Q jet on it, and it got about the same as it did with the worn out Q jet. It did perform much better, but I believe it had more to do with the carb than the intake alone. I may be wrong, but I don't believe the intake will hurt mileage much (if any), but I don't believe just the intake alone will help it either.

I had duals on it. When I got it the motor trans and exhaust was gone. I dont believe in cats.
