What did you get done? 06/08
I know this is a bit early, but I am on the road and have to post it while I ca.
I spent the weekened so far relaxing and enjoying myself on a "Fiesta en San Antonio" celebrating my daughters 16th birthday. My family and friends were joined by n2billets family for a weekend of fun So far my quick and costly adventure has taken me to see exotic plants, animals, and marine life (Sea World) I will enjoy a full day of gravity defying, equilibrium upsetting, g force testing at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Don't be to sympathetic of my plight, I will be relaxing (recovering) at the La Cantera Resort and enjoying the finest Tex-Mex food while dining on the river boat of Casa Rio. What did you get done? La Cantera- Casa Rio-

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
... the nerve of some people! - I'm still working, I'll post when I'm done!
Update: 2130 hrs - Glad you had a good time. I cut 1 coil off my stock springs to bring the truck down to a respectable level after swapping the really short ones for stock ones last week. Now she's sitting better and doesn't look like she'll drag or rub the fender wells.. I got the front suspension put together and added new brakes. I'm hoping to get new exhaust installed this week and get her ready for a cruise-in next weekend. I'll post a video of the 454 next weekend. Ken

Finally replaced the "Din" sized radio with a shaft style from Ken Harrison Inc. Made a mounting plate from aluminum and set her in place. The knobs are much easier to use for this clumsy old goat.

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
Went to a huge parts swap with around a couple hundred vendors. Camped the weekend at the parts swap. Found a aluminum tailgate band for my 81 shortbox. A vendor had a gmc one, still new in the package, but needed something cheaper and with chevrolet on it. Got my new edelbrock intake and carb and goodies bolted on the 81. Also received package from classic parts...... with some new window seals and turn signals for the bumper to replace the faded and cracked ones. Also got some new gm rear inner bumper brackets for my rear smooth bumper.
N2TRUX, that resort looks alot better than the camping conditions I had to put up with it. Windy, humid, raining, and hot. Last edited by vern350; 06-08-2008 at 06:55 PM. |

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
Spent most of Saturday on the road to go look at a bagged s10 for a daily driver. It's amazing what some people will tell you over the phone. Need less to say, I went with cash in hand ready to buy it, and when I finally saw it in person I turned right back around. I didn't even say a word to the guy, I just left.
Today was more productive. I got all the acessoried mounted on my motor. Everything lines up, and I have two of the tree belts installed. Just have to clean up the power steering and the York, and I'm done. |

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
I didint get a dern thing truck related done.. in fact i havent even gone near the truck in like a week. Its hot as all get out here this week and im trying to stay alive working outdoors in it... Saturday my wife and i went to Atlantic City and stayed overnight.. We didnt win but we didnt play much. A friend gave me concert tickets so we went to see Clint Black who put on a great show.. and we were in like the 22nd row so we had great seats
the wife who doesnt like country music enjoyed herself and clint took a turn playing drums during the encore as one of his guitarist/ backup singers sang the old steeley dan song "when josie comes home" clint did an old willie nelson tune and sang all his hits pretty much..so it was a nice night

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
I did some stuff for the LSx swap into the 68.
I trimmed the motor mount adapters to set the 6.0 in the sbc location. This has been a trial & error deal since I'm trying to use the original Dropmember sbc 'tabs' vs. cutting them off & relocating them. I yanked the truck intake off to offer a better angle when trying to stab the drivetrain in the engine compartment. I also had to use a hoist 'carb' plate w/the holes tweaked that's now bolted to the engine valley toward the rear of the block. This should keep the hoist chains off the firewall (they beat it up pretty good on my 1st attempt). I spent part of the week trying to find someone parting out an LS1 so I could get an oil pan. I wasn't having much luck so I bit the bullet & got some stuff on the way from my local GM parts source so I can move forward. I also gutted the factory heater & stuff so I'm committing myself to aftermarket hvac . . .....

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
Got a late start today,... but I got a start on my rear dropmember for the '86 beater/shop truck. Got the frame notches, both tube crossmembers, and front 4-link brackets installed. I know it doesn't look like much,... but there are several hours here. Tomorrow night the rear end goes under it. The humidity is killing my bare metal parts. Quick mock up then dis-assembly to bead blast and powdercoat.

Sold my Hilborn Inj. at swap meet Fri. so it wasn't a toal wash out. A buddy and his family from NOLA met up with us and a good time was had by all. Wired on the project some today.

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
Rotated the tires on my 83 and messed around with the wiring some more. I still haven't fixed the problem with my rear left turn signal, despite replacing everything I can think of and getting rid of all the trailer wiring.

Took Friday off and went and snatched the K5 out of storage where it's sat untouched for nearly 2 months...decided to finally swap the wheels from the '79 project over to the blazer...why did I wait soooo long?1?!?!?!?!
Gonna have to remove the inner fenders...then may cut the front springs another inch to give it the rake I want....or maybe just bag it... anyways...went to a small local show on Sat...and hung out with car guys for the first time in a LOOOONG time this weekend...had a blast...whatcha think?

Re: What did you get done? 06/08
x2 here
I, once again, wound up drinking quite a few beers. I also celebrated a friends fathers 60th birthday, worked all day Saturday and was pissed all day sunday 'cuz it would not stop raining. Im going to order some new door hinges for my driver side door so it'll actually shut without slamming it. That'll be a next weekend project.

Howdy from Beijing!
Friday we went to Tianamen Square, Saturday was the Forbidden City to see the Emporer's Palace, Sunday we did some shopping and today we went to The Great Wall. Nothing truck related unless you count breathing endless exhaust fumes....

Hey! I was in San Antonio too! Oh, wait. I live here...
The onlything I did with the truck this weekend was to use it to tow the boat to the lake for a few hours. At $50 to fill up one of two tanks, I can't afford to do anything lese with it. Slonaker |
