It was a good day for the Critter

I have been real busy lately and unfortunately the ‘ol Critter has been feeling a little neglected. Today however, I got a lot accomplished. I have been hung up on the whole body mount shimming for months now. When I could find time I would adjust and step back, adjust some more, study a little more, but I was never satisfied. Today it all came together. I bolted up the top the best I could and then with a little help from Jtrux after he got off work, we got everything shimmed up to where we were satisfied. I immediately took the top off, after all, it is summer time (managed to snap a few pics first). I had put in a new Mallory HEI distributor the other day so after the top was off I timed the engine. Then a little cleaning out of the leaves and everything was good to go for a cruise around the neighborhood. I ended up driving around for about 30 or 40 miles tonight! It was SOOO nice to get to do that again.

Now I can get moving on all the other things that need to be done. I really didn’t want to start any other repairs until the body was situated. Thanks for the help Jtrux, and thanks everyone on here for the virtual help, ESPECIALLY Huck!

I really dig your wheels.

Someday, we'll get summer up here in the Pacific Northwest. The high temp was 49 the other day. The snow level is down to 2500' today. It's like fall outside

Yeah the push bar is pretty cool. It is a little bent up on the bottom where the PO tried to use it to pull the blazer and it wasn't quite strong enough . I think I am going to try to straighten it and have it re-chromed. As far as I know you can't buy a fully welded one like that anymore...but I could be wrong.

I like them as well but I haven’t decided if I will keep them long term or not. I REALLY wish they could be shined up a little more, but that's magnesium for you. Beings that new wheels generally cost money, I have a feeling that I will keep these until they crumble into pieces. I have always joked that I needed to paint my blazer hugger orange that way I could have a General Lee K/5. I’m almost there, I have the push bar, the wheels, and my doors barely work!

Looks good! Yeah...body shimming is a real pain in the back side. Once I get my motor checked out, we need to get everyone together again.

Agreed! I have a whole list of things to do now, but I am going to try to resist trearing it apart again for a while at least. I want to get to drive it for a few weeks.

Before you even suggest it, i'm not carrying any more pics of your blazer around on my phone since yours is so perfect and all.

For those who don't know the story, I had a pic of his and mine on my phone and one day I showed the pics at work and people went on and on about how nice his is. Apparently my camera doesn't capture rust, guess it didn't come with that feature.

We did a quick reagent test on/in the radiator when the engine was hot tonight...some weird blue chemical that's supposed to turn green when exposed to exhaust gas. It was kinda like a pregnancy test...please stay blue, please stay blue, please stay blue. It stayed blue, so, no exhaust gases found...means I don't have a blown gasket or cracked head. I guess that's the good news. The bad news is we didn't have time to figure out what's wrong. We'll look it over this weekend. At least it looks like a motor tear down is not in the immediate future

Thats good news. I've got the new motor in ol yeller, now i've gotta bolt the accessories to it. Hopefully I can get it fired up in the next week or so. I really want to put a meet together at biff busbys (sp). later mario

That is one just right looking Blazer. No nonsense or frufru I like it.

I'm trying some wheel cleaner that the high end sporty car boys favor, I'll take some photos when I use it on some wheels I have and can show the results.

Hey, my pleasure--glad I could help.

It is nice when it comes together---mine took a while -a little floor patch and new custome torque boxes just straightened out the whole thing. Would like to drop my top but then I would be tempted to show it off and drive it a lot which I just can't afford---. So, I drive it maybe 10 minutes a week to keep the seals sealed.

Maybe I'll just throw on a little wax for kicks---.hehehehe
