Project BAD K5
Time to start a build thread. Made a 4hr trip to pick this Blazer up yesterday. Scored it off good ole craigslist.com pretty stoked. I had no idea how good of shape it was when i went up there. It has no rust, i mean that honestly. Maybe 1 hrs of surface rust repair total. Body is straight, with the exception of one dent on the roof. Original stereo hole is uncut, and the dashpad shimmers with no cracks. Odometer reads 81,xxx and i believe its original. Thing is golden. Anyway, here are some pics.
Oh yeah, i paid $300 for it |

Re: Project BAD K5
So i got it home. Unloaded it, stripped out all the carpet to see what i was dealing with, and was astonished. I cant find any rust. One small strip at the VERY back of the floor, and thats it. Any other rust is surface. Stock seats still work, back seat works, its amazing. Anyway, i washed it, and this is what i have to work with.

Re: Project BAD K5
When you say you went "up there" to pick it up I assume you were in the Seattle area?
Too bad I didn't know as I have a TBI 350/700r4 combo for sale right now. And you should see the pile of perfectly usable parts I piled onto my parts truck to take to the scrapper today...

Re: Project BAD K5
haha. i bet you would. not to brag, but i think alot of people would. but you know, anything is for sale, for the right price...
now, question. What color to seal it? I worked out some trade work, and im going to DTM(direct to metal, primer sealer more or less) the whole rig, and roof, and wonder, because i can tint it any color really, what color should i do? I thought i could do typical flat black, but would rather do something odd, like olive drab green, baby blue, lime green, etc. |

update. decided on the colors. ill be doing a dark gunmetal grey, with a dark maroon stripe down the middle, in the stock trim. ill get the exact colors once i pick them. ill be priming it these colors next week or two. im also going to remove all the trim, have it straightened, and have it all powder coated black. along with the bumpers(ill shave them first), grill, headlight bezels, pretty much all trim and chrome, including wipers, will get powder coated black. then im going to run some big wheels, not sure what size yet, but black. and either black or maroon tint. thats the plan as of right now. But, now its time to go get to work! |

Re: Project BAD K5
well, got home today, mowed the lawn, had some pizza, and got to it. got the windshield out, the one side window from the top, and the passenger door glass is out. stripped off all the trim. kept it all straight, first time with the clips though, kinda a pain. but im having it all straightened and powdercoated black, so the straighter the better. got the dash pad off(amazing shape, its wow, oh, for sale, by the way), got the dash bezel off(also for sale, stereo hole uncut).
Started stripping the firewall down too. its going to be a summer rig, so i will be ditching the heater box all together. no ac is needed, well, because the roof comes off anyway, should have the rest stripped tomorrow. only found one little, i mean less than the size of a dime of rust under the windshield weatherstripping, so im golden. anyway, pics! oh yeah, two other chevys, other than my 04, in the driveway. the red short bed is for sale too. Re: Project BAD K5
Are you suggesting cutting the top off?
So, today i did a spray out. I found a toyota/lexus dark grey metallic. Im set on that. Then, we had some dark green/blue metallic laying around, too dark. Tried nissan 350z orange copper, not right. Tomorrow, going to try this fiat yellow/green/brown color i found. If not, still have dark green, and to try the original maroon like earlier. Keep you all updated. If i find the color, might have the doors sprayed this weekend. Perhaps the tailgate, possibly the roof. oh yeah, ditched the arches idea. i love the idea, but i cant keep the stock trim, and it looks odd without wheel trim, with all the rest on there, and i dont feel like modifying the trim i keep, so that idea is out, on this rig. maybe on a squarebody truck sometime. Last edited by BK; 06-19-2008 at 03:19 AM. Reason: no more arches :( |

Re: Project BAD K5
well, i thought i was decided on these colors. after a few sprayouts, im not soo sure. its a lexus/toyota gunmetal metallic with a fiat gold yellow green color. the stock stripe will be the crazy color. the black stripes were to simulate my trim, which i wanted to have powder coated black. im pretty different, as far as my colors. i like ugly/cool if that makes sense. the color will be... some people love it, some people hate it. i dont mind, because im the one driving it anyway, yeah. hopefully shave the rear window handle, and prime the tailgate and doors, and get them sprayed and cleared this weekend. anyway, here are some pics. ill get sunlight pics soon to!

Re: Project BAD K5
That Fiat color is cool. Not sure about what it will look like together on a truck though. Like you said, it's your truck...

Re: Project BAD K5
thanks man. yea, this thing in the rust department is amazing. with the 3.5" z, are you running 2.5" spindles? Im not sure if im going to replace all the frame, or just hack the bottom off to lay pinch, and weld some tubing in there. We will see when i get there. Oh yeah, what size tires/wheels/overall diameter are you running?
