Scored a side job today. Trade Work..
So today my Boss comes up to me and says...come outside....
I come out to this huge crazy looking 4x4 THING... LOL The guy that paints our sand rails has a 4x4 chevy truck that he made into a custom extended cab with full size powered windows.......Pretty crazy looking... I will get some pictures in the next couple days... Here is some of his paint on our sand car.. He wants a full roll cage built for his truck....In return he will Paint my entire truck.....He is a professional painter....He said it would be done right... Im not going to do anything crazy like graphics or nothing...Just a solid color or maybe...I mean maybe a nice two tone.... Opinions ?? So I told him I would build him a sick roll cage.... Should be a fair trade...I have to do the cage on my own time too.... So it will take awhile.... End results will be worth it.... So now my interior is defiantly on hold.....LOL AND when it comes time to paint I need to find another ride to work LMAO !! SO now I need to pick a color and decide what Im going to do.... First.... Should I fix all my window seals before paint ? Or pull all the glass before he paints it.....And then re-install after he is done ?? Sounds the best LOL Im assuming(saw some LOL) I have some rust in the lower passenger side of the front winshield area......It is now leaking worse since I looked under the rubber seal I think for the time being im going to continue replacing the essentials.... I have already replaced the upper and lower ball joints...upper and lower bushings....Tie-rods and adjusters...Pitman arm, Idler arm and drag-link.... Next is the power steering box itself...Cab mount bushings....and leaf spring bushings..... The List is getting HUGE...LOL and its still my daily driver Hahaha Thanks for your opinions !!! Oh yeah here is my truck... Im also on the hunt for four more stock 15 inch wheels to have powder coated....Im having the center caps re-chromed probably next week... Thanks again....This is my first big thread LOL

I'd probably go with a light metallic blue. It'll work well with whats already under the hood and interior.
Kinda like this car...

I would pull all the windows and rubbers out and replace the windshield rubber and vent window rubber, other rubbers can be done later.

I have no idea about the tailgate. I know people generally like your style better and you might find someone to trade ya. Here are all of the decent pictures i have of it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Since he's a professional, I would take advantage of it and pull back everything I could (knowing it's a DD) and let him spray it.
Since this is kinda like a contract, do you know what he was thinking? I like your truck the way it is, btw.

Re: Scored a side job today. Trade Work..
Wow man thats all I can say...Thats one beutiful truck....
With all the trim holes...did you weld them up ?? I had a friend that said he would fill all the holes on the truck....I agreed until he said bondo..... I want my truck 100% bondo free if possible.... Also...are you going to lower it ?? I have 4 areas I need to work on....passenger fender has rust...you can barely see it in the pictures...there is a dent above the winshield on the cab....and the rear wheel well has some rust... All in all it shouldnt be allot in body work...Oh yeah I have one BB gun dent on the driver door LMAO !!!! Thanks for posting those pictures !! Im still undecided LOL Quote:
Yea im thinking of pulling the glass, door panels ...the dash is already out...guage cluster in there is not staying...either is the column. So he can spray everything in one shot...sounds like the best way to do it...Better to do it right for the long run......... We havent talked everything over...BUT I did tell him the body was straight minus the above mentioned....And he said thats no problem he would take care of it all..... Im going to make his roll cage sick !! he will like it... It already has some very weird rear bed cage thats pretty much a hack...He wants me to tie into that from the cab...I may talk him into cutting the whole bed cage off LMAO !!!

Re: Scored a side job today. Trade Work..
I would go to your junk yard first and get a better fender. A rust and dent free fenders can be had for 25.
I really dont have any plans to lower it anymore. I collected the front spinals and springs but lost interest in the look of a lowered long wheel base. If i recall right, only rear bed trim holes and model badging that needed to be welded up. I dont think you can get away without using any bondo, just try and use it as sparingly as possible (that is unless you want to use the lost art of lead filling). From the pictures it looks like you have a straight and clean truck. What are your plans with it? Why are you going with the 5.3? Is this a daily driver? I would keep or rebuild the straight 6 and throw on a turbo for kicks if it was mine.

Thanks for the info....I will check it out.. Quote:
Yeah Im going to hunt down two front fenders and one inner fender well....Just gotta get some time to look LOL !! Yeah im not too sure on the lowered long bed look either LOL As for what I have planned for it.... Im going to keep it pretty much stock ride height...maybe figure out how to level out the front with the back... And FOR SURE the 5.3L Since I live in California and its a 81' it needs to be a clean runner..... The Six runs clean and great but its a dog !!! Im looking to smoke some new chevy in old blue LOL The 5.3 was the simplest way to go for me....I get them all day long through my work since we use them in the sand rails.... Parts are available and cheap... Also the other thing that locked it in was the killer wiring guy we have.... He let me drive his 86 dually with a 5.3/4l60 ( soon to be 80e) and IM HOOKED !!!! He just passed at the smog referee a couple days ago... Plus better fuel mileage and MoRE power Im thinking of swapping in a cam along the road and have it tested just for kicks...My computer guy says with the proper ECM tune it will pass.... The cam will be the last thing im thinking about though...

I would see about getting the windshield channel fixed. Otherwise it is going to cause more problems later.
