depends on where the noise is coming from.... could also be A-arm bushings going bad or something else loose in the front end.

I second the control arm issue. That was my "clunk". It was really metalic, and I'd generally hear it when pulling away from curbs and stuff. Turns out one of the metal bushings on the lower control arm center bar was totally ovaled out.

I had a loose stearing box on my k-10 that made a klunk when making hard turns.
A broken upper shock mount on the sub that klunked. And all the alignment shims came out one time on my 2wd and that klunked when turning and braking. Randy

A few other thoughts
Could possibly be the spring not seated just right in the perch. Mine's done this before. Does it and mysteriously goes away, no real good reason for it.
I agree with the shock mount, as it's a continual pain in the tookus (whoever came up with that design should've been shot, stabbed, drawn and quartered and left in an unmarked grave...).

I've had ball joints clunk in the turn/hill situation before...
Lucily, clunking is the only bad noise my GMC has not made as of yet. (knock on woodgrain) |
