Who is moving all the threads?
I know this is in the wrong forum, but this one seems to be the most affected. I have noticed in the past couple of weeks that threads are being moved to other areas VERY frequently. While I understand that maybe a thread on a gas gauge malfunctioning technically belongs in the electrical forum, the fact is this forum gets more traffic than any other area. I know personally I don't have time to look at all the different forums to try and find people to help. Generally I look at this forum (67-72 truck message board) and the parts forum. I wouldn't be able to help someone with a gas gauge problem if it is stuck in electrical and I don't see it. Does this mean that a thread looking for green trucks should be in paint? Why the sudden interest in moving threads to different areas, I don't remember it being this strict before. maybe I'm just in rare form or in a bad mood today, but I don't understand. I'm not angry, just curious.

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
Shawn, I am personally on the fence when it comes to that.
The aregument you give is quite valid. If it is 67 - 72, then it belongs on this page. However, the counter point, if every single 67 - 72 question, comment, find/score, thaory, historical tidbit.... and on and on, got posted on this page, there would be 6 new pages a day. Electrical questions is a very good example for this discussion. It is pretty much the single system that scares the most people. They can't see it, they don't understand it, they fear it. So why ask eleventy billion people who are also scared of it, when you can put it in a low traffic area, that gets checked daily by more than one person who does 'get it' and can unsually help out and get it fixed, instead of letting it fall 6 pages back within the first 12 hrs. Paint and body section... the advice on there is golden, regardless of what you drive. I could be painting a honde or a Prius and use the info from there for a good paint job. Engine section... a small block is a small block, an inline is an inline, a big block is a big block.... yes, there are variables, but for the best part, many Q&A's there spread over more than the 6 years these trucks were built. Personally, I saved the links to many different pages covering this whole site, into my favorites. It makes things easier to navigate. The electrical page is so slow usually, you can read every post within 5 min. 10 min on the engine forum. I kinda like it, becouse i go to that forum, and I am in the electrical state of mind. I'm not being distracted by some one posting an e-bay atrosity, or asking the age old question of how to figure out what gear is in the rear, or why his doors unlock when he shuts the door. |

The mods are bored waiting for the fourth?
You might try looking at new posts by clicking the "new posts" at the top. That way you don't have to slog through old stuff... |

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
This is an "age old" problem.....that can never be solved to suit everyone.
Many of the specific sub forums are there by request of the membership. The "racing & hi performance", review, transportation, and S-10 sections are the newest IIRC, and there are others that have been asked about (that have not occured, yet at least)...... Then...someone comments that there isn't enough traffic on a particular area.....It's a continuous circle. The idea is to "keep things straight" and in one "mind-set", like Longhornman suggested. It really is the responsibility of the membership to put things in the right forum in the first place. It is the moderator's job to keep things somewhat contained.....It is a bit of a "gray area" though. Like has been mentioned some things are not "year specific", so they should not be in those areas...they belong in the proper sub-forum. We try to leave things where they are unless they are glaringly out of place or there is a duplicate somewhere. If someone has multiple posts, I always merge them to the specific forum...away from the more general ones. It is "hoped" that people will begin to put things in the right areas on their own....they would get more traffic, if the did, but some still insist upon putting things in the "wrong" place and noting in the post that they know that it is wrong...but they are doing it for more traffic. Personally I argee with Longhornman on this one, you are better-off with a lower volume of traffic to get better quality responses. I go through the more specific forums first and hit the 67-72 and the 73-87 last. |

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
here is my only gripe, i like looking at carshow pics that eveyone posts from diffrent areas.....IMO they post that so everyone can enjoy the pics, so natrally they'll post them in the higher traffic forum...and also i dont frequent most the sub-forums..just my .02

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
Not pointing fingers...because the Original Poster qouted it too, but here is a prefect example...
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=297921 So, what do you do with this? Move it to 73-87? Move it to Engine & Drivetrain Move it to General Discussion? Leave it where it is...even though the poster freely admits he is looking for an "instant answer"? Reguardless of where it gets moved to...there is a "re-direct" left behind in the original location, so the Original Poster can find it, where he left it. The only time that there is no re-direct is when there is a merge or when a post is totally removed for rules violations. |

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
geeesch... why did it have to be me... When I got back, I added another post about being back and it could be moved by the mods as it was no longer important (but did have a response) - When someone posts "Mods...." does it post pop up on anyones radar?

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
I don't think anyone really wants to see what the forum would be like without the sub forums. We already get 3+ pages of posts a day... If people would follow the rules and post in the correct sections to begin with then the traffic flow would be there for it to be answered. Like this post that I am moving to Site Feedback where it belongs. It's not that hard to check multiple boards, or do like most and just hit new posts if you visit often and then you'll be able to see them all....

Yeah! But I just hit new posts and it was right there, so no problem...
I agree that organization is needed to keep the place from becoming a madhouse... Or is it an organized madhouse anyway!? Gotta love it either way. |

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
okay guys, I get the premise and the theory. I must be one of the slow ones. It takes me entirely too much time just to check the two forums I do check. I must read and type entirely too slow. I understand you moved this post, but to be honest, I don't think I have ever even checked this forum. I've been on here for a long time and have never hit the new post button (I need to look for it). I always just look for the bold typeset. My point was to not start a ruckus, but just understanding. As for the electrical stuff, I understand a lot of electrical stuff, but I never frequent there, maybe I need to do so. Great, there goes more time working on my truck!!j/k

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
Once you learn to spend more time haunting the forums than working on the truck, you'll find the "new posts" thing. Next stop nirvana, or purgatory. Ha! I kill me!

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
I've been moving some posts, I see too many that are not even close to being in the right area.
Looks like the others above have hit the points on the matter Quote:
Bingo - NEW POSTS on forums like this are the only way to go +1 to you If you are using the GREY THEME, click Search and there is NEW POSTS in the drop down menu

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
If you are looking for the "New Posts" link it is located in different places on each "Theme". I am on the "Blue Theme" and the "New Posts" link is located to the right of the "Search" link. On my screen the "Theme" link is at the bottom of the page.

Re: Who is moving all the threads?
one tip
if you search new posts it only shows the new posts (duh) and not any you replied to etc you may wish to view. if you click quick links and select todays posts, its a complete list and the ones that are "new" are bold |
