Need help on cd player install

I have a 67 that needs a radio, and I have 2 Kenwood cd players just lying around. How is everyone doing there dashs? I know I'll have to do some cutting but the original place for the stock radios were for the older knob style radios and if I cut into that which I'll have to do, its going to be a bit to big. I'll be stuck with 2 little gaps on both sides of my cd player. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

If you don't like the gaps, you can buy an installation kit or the bezel that Mahanian is selling.

Don't cut the dash!!!!!!!!! Install a stereo in your glove box, keep the original, and get a stereo with a remote; or you can get the remanufactured ones that fit into the dash and have whatever you want. JMO

We have people who say, "Cut the dash!"

We have people who say, "Don't cut the dash!"

We have people who don't care.

We have people who say the engine makes all the music and they can't hear the radio, anyway.

Mahanian is selling a billet piece that you can use to define the area that the DIN-sized radio will inhabit.


But, you don't have to have one to install yours. I cut the dash on my sons' '69, using the sleeve for the radio as the guide. With the hole cut to that dimension, then installed, the face plate covered all of the "fuzzy" areas and it looked good.

My dash is uncut, but Mahanian is sending me the billet piece, as soon as it is ready....and it may already be on its way.

As you can see by my feelings on the subject, it becomes a matter of personal preference. Crutchfield has a new product that fits many vehicles and the same manufacturer has a kit to do our trucks and install a 2-shaft radio. My truck isn't ever going to be a concours candidate, so cutting the dash is in its future.

Thanks guys, for the info. As for the ("don't cut the dash" and "the engine makes all the music and they can't hear the radio, anyways"), guys. I want to keep this truck stock looking, it has been for the 12 years I've had it, and will keep that look. I don't really care about the cutting of the dash, it can be changed back to stock easier than the cutting of the truck. The outside changing is what bothers me, IMO these trucks were perfect in everyway, why change them.

Now that would make me reconsider the dash cutting. I like that, alot, how hard was that, or did you have someone do it?
