Need some help...
I'm trying to shed some major weight on my truck before I get it back out to the track. I'm hoping some of you have yours apart enough to maybe stand on a scale with said parts and let me know what they weigh. I appreciate the help..
Hood Fender Front end piece (between fenders) Inner fender well (with hinge and spring) Radiator support Booster (with out master) Bench seat Front cross member Bed wood (maybe you have a new kit you haven't installed yet) Wheel tubs Window glass and hardware for both window/wing (60-63) Brake rotor Brake Caliper Spindle Lower control arm Upper control arm Spring Any other places you think I can cut some weight, please let me know.. I've always heard 10 lbs of unsprung weight is equal to 100 lbs of sprung weight which is 0.10 off your ET. Might want to keep that in mind when prioritizing where to spend money on getting rid of weight!

I'm assuming you have dropped the heating system, but if not, it's very easy to take out. I pulled out my inner fenderwells, and shaved the fender to gain clearance when the truck is lowered, but this would definately help you shed some weight.

Heating system is long gone.. I have mixed feelings on inner wheel wells. Would the weight reduction overcome the potential aero loss I might get?
Anyone had a chance to weigh some things? Again, I would really appreciate and help here..

thought about getting any parts from US body source? they have a ton of glass 60-66 stuff available.
also check out shakey puddin on the h.a.m.b. (just do a google search: shakey puddin hamb) he had a build post on a straight front axle for his 55 chev. some youtube vids as well, pretty awesome car: alcohol injected bbc 55 chev in the nines... |

Well seeing I have all of my front sheetmetal here in my bedroom I am sure I can weight some stuff tonight when I get back from work. The hood is gunna be kinda hard to handle by myself though..

I've got a little info for you, just some parts that were easy to get to. I'll see if I can get some more for you tomorrow or Saturday.
Inner fender (no hinge or spring) 18lbs. radiator support 20lbs. grill panel 19lbs. upper control arm (no ball joint or shaft) 5lbs.

I would shed the inner fenders or shave them to where you can still use hood hinges.. that prob would help you a little.
For my 62 i bought a full-tilt fiberglass frontend with a 2 in cowl. kinda pricy but it shed around 300lbs, two bolts and one person can take it off. Its a pretty cool setup especially if you are going to take it to the track and its light |

Got some more weights for you.......
Hood 84lbs Fender 16lbs Hood hinge and spring 8lbs Front spring 13lbs Front suspension crossmember 61lbs Rotor 26lbs Caliper 9lbs Spindle 22lbs Lower control arm (bare, no shaft or bj) 17lbs Wheel tubs 11lbs That's about it for what I have to weigh..... One thing I thought of to save weight is an aluminum radiator, if you haven't done so already.

Thanks everyone for the help so far.. Some of the weights I have received from the manufactures on glass stuff doesn't seem that worth it for how much it is agains what I'll save..
Hood basically would be $11.58 a pound, not including shipping. So far that is the best weight rate other than just removing the inner fenders. (Hood based on 40lbs for a hinge set up). I think it is going to be hard to get this thing down to a 3,500 race weight with out spending a fortune..
